They actually specifically say that because what's his face went back in time, that it actually created an alternate reality.

I think the "alternate reality" factor is the only reason fans aren't "shitting bricks" over a certain implosion :/

It felt like a fanfiction written by someone who didn't understand the universe... I think it would have been better if JJ and the writers didn't try to name drop/nod to the fans so much.. I mean it was obvious that they didn't know a thing about the universe they were playing in and decided to do their own thing anyways, so they might as well just did their own thing instead of trying to tie it in with all the original sources... (continuity in Star Trek? bah!)

I was entertained but I was not impressed..

I've been hearing mixed reviews from fans, some seem to love the "new direction" others are spiteful and hate the whole damn thing.

Truthfully I don't see this as much of a "reboot".

JaddziaDax:

What about that film wasn't "star trek"? The whole thing was spewing Star Trek from beginning to end. Give me some examples of the writers not knowing anything about the franchise/universe.

The point of a "reboot" is to allow people to do their own thing. Time travel and the alternate universe concept has been done so horribly in the past (I think DS9 did a decent job for the most part though but over used) and this was the only time I felt like it was really justified.

Sounds like a true trek movie to me then. After all, this description would cover 90% of ST:TNG, DS9, or Voyager plots as well.

As someone named after a Star Trek character, I give it two double-fisted back pummels

There was much space docking, space jumping, and general running around in serpentine fashions (the latter was mostly in previews, but still there!)

Oh...and a lot of ledge hanging. You can never have too much. :D

I really enjoyed the entire story. I thought Nero could have been played and written better, but that just makes the movie seem more like the original series more then a movie.

I thought it tied in fairly well with the universe and I am not quite as annoyed with the new Enterprise design as I once was before seeing it. I did find the redesign especially in the engineering decks to be a lot more industrial and less futuristic then any other design which to me makes a bit more sense even if it is a step backwards.
Spoiler :
I was a little annoyed at the engine coolant scene. I mean, even in the pre A days warp core coolant was known as something that would eat through all bio-mass. Yet for some reason it's just water now? Do what?
In the end I loved it. And as I predicted, I will be seeing it multiple times in the theater. While not multiple times opening weekend (thanks to ACEN.) Now to wait another 3-7 years for the next installment.

I've already seen it twice; wouldn't be against seeing it again either.

Loved it. This and "Wrath of Kahn" are the only movies I like in the Star Trek series. :book:
