Toradora! Trailer BETA

Post by AimoAio » Tue May 05, 2009 2:11 pm

Would really like some help and opinions on this since it's my 2nd time doing a trailer and my 1st time using voiceovers.

Whoops,I noticed a subtitle error,at 0:46,it's "about" not "out"
I'm not so sure, but should I extend it and add a bit about Minori and Yusaku? :?

Help appreciated on these particular issues.

1)What do you think of the text?(subtitles, character titles)
(Too small/big?Too plain/fancy?Is the red outline horrible? Is there any parts you can't read because of it's location or colour?)

2)What do you think of the audio?(voiceovers, music)
(Do the voiceovers fit into the theme/look random or out of place?Any lip flapping?Does music block out voiceover?Does the varying volume of music ruin performance?)

3)What do you think of the visuals?(scene selection, transitions)
(Do they match the theme/fit the story?Look very badly edited/put together randomly? Are the changes in colour and backgrounds distracting?Too many flashes?)

4)Does it illustrate the theme/genre well?(It's a romantic comedy)

5)Does ending look like an ending?Or just some random crap put there?

6)If you haven't seen Toradora.Would you be interested in watching it now? :P

Thank you in advance!Oh almost forgot,if you help me,I'll either do an OP or beta test one of your WIPs ^^ I'm also looking for permanent beta testers,so if you're interested,PM me :)

Spoiler :
First thing I noticed: The fact that Taiga and Ryuuji start falling in love with each other, late in the series (starting in episode 21), as well as the fact that the christmas star gets shattered (in episode 18), would be considered a spoiler, and spoilers should be avoided in trailers.
The first scene in your trailer is from episode 1, but the rest of the trailer uses scenes from episodes 17-24. This actually seems really disjointed to me. Generally, a trailer should use scenes from about the first three or four episodes.

Putting that aside, you did a good job matching the music with the scenes you picked. It definitely seems to flow like a trailer should. I especially liked the way the music fades out at 1:06 and then jumps back in at 1:15. I didn't notice many major problems with the audio, for the most part, you can hear both the music and the dialogue at the parts you need to (the music drowns out the dialogue from 1:19 to 1:33).

1) As for the text, some spaces need to be inserted after the commas and question marks, most of them are too close to the words that follow. The red outline isn't bad, but the words seem a bit blurry sometimes, if they could be made sharper it would definitely help. Maybe make it a darker red.

3) The whole 'Christmas' thing, although it spans several episodes, isn't what the series isn really about, and it seems to be featured too prominently in the trailer, especially since it's near the beginning. Other than that, the scenes seem to express the romance aspect of the series rather well. Again, the lack of scenes from the start of the series is undesirable.

4) There is very little comedy expressed in the trailer.

5) The ending seems fine to me.

6) I have seen ToraDora, obviously, but I think this trailer makes the series seem worth watching, even though it uses different scenes and aspects of the show than what I would have chosen.

Thanks xyzyxx, your op is up now!
Spoiler :
When you talk about them falling in love with each other are you referring to the voiceover near the end where she says she couldn't stop loving Ryuji?
I was considering in taking out the Christmas scenes and include some funny parts from nearer the beginning of the series.Seems like that's a good thing to do(A few testers mentioned this too  )

Thanks for taking the time to watch and review it! ^^

Spoiler :
No, I was referring to the fact that you seem to use those two characters and their love as a central theme throughout the whole trailer.

Spoiler :
Not necessarily, but as I said, I consider it a spoiler. The series mainly focuses on Taiga chasing after Kitamura and Ryuuji chasing after Minorin. I felt it was a fairly major plot twist when they started focusing on each other. I personally would avoid giving away such plot details in a trailer but it's up to you.

Ah..I get what you mean now.I wanted to add the other characters in but then it'd end up being too lengthy so I cut them out  I'll see what I can do.Thanks!

Well I thought if came out well but the text it's self should be more Trailer like.
The size is right but possibly a black background with strong white letter maybe with
a Japanese lettering for example. (Ie see the end of higurashi episodes or original 30 second
Saikano trailer) plus there should be more of them to build tension. Next show more of the connection between all four main characters. For example "Sometimes love is obvious..." then
later "Other times it's painful"...Still not a bad beta i see what you where trying to do.

I wasn't sure whether to add the other 2 characters in or not,if I did it'd end up being complicated and long-winded and I wanted to keep it short, dramatic and catchy. But I think I get what you mean.

Hmm...yeah,the text is a bit bland, should probably add something in the background.

I like your idea about the love but I probably won't add it in,it'd get too long :(

Thanks for commenting anyway, your op is up now! :)

mhm i like that idea but... it a bit collides with amv trailers while its more sync-up-a-scene than tell few words you know it's actually doesn't feel like traler for me, but yeah... if just judging it as vid ok remove just those white borders :P , but as more trailer-feel it could be executed other way for example you add narrator and play with sync for that... and say "oh she gave him that letter" or something fun/more creative that's just what i thought and yeah i don't feel like watching series ;)
Still better than that MMO.
