Almost done with the first season, and the rolling continues. I like how this is basically a school comedy anime, where you have the typical cast of cute girls and their teachers, all with particular character idiosyncracies. In something like Azumanga Daioh, those idiosyncracies are presented as endearing character quirks. In Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, they're presented as disturbing psychotic disorders. Which by the way are just as endearing
The show sure lays it on thick with Japanese-culture humour and anime references, but certainly makes up for that with the sheer doze of random and clever in equal parts. Highlights for me so far - spending most of the time pausing the show to read the blackboards, Meru-chan, and the constant subtext between the counselor and Komori

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…
