Problem is that if you edit the first post it doesn't register as being updated when you look at the list of topics in the forum. OTOH if you make a new post each update it actually bumps the topic and marks it as having unread posts in it. Which means people can tell at a glance there's something new in the topic instead of having to remember to check the first post all the time. So I suggest you keep making new posts when you update instead of modifying the first post.
