A whole bunch of Questions about Sony Vegas Pro 8.0
I've just recently got Sony Vegas pro 8.0 and it's very complex. I've read the "Idiots guide to Vegas" but i still have questions
1) Can you create clips on Sony Vegas ? ( like on windows movie maker or do you have to keep draging the episode back to the timeline over and over)
2)when i put a video on the timeline and play it it starts to slow down and lag. what do i do?
The question i really want answered is the create clips question. I love how movie maker makes it easy to just double click the epiosode and it's cut into clips. I hope Sony VEegas can do that too. Hope you guys can help me.

Re: A whole bunch of Questions about Sony Vegas Pro 8.0
1) This was a huge blow to me when I first switched from WMM too, so let me be emphatic.
You're not going to find anything like that in higher end editing programs, you'll have to get used to it.
But you don't have to cut it on the timeline, right click on the episode in your media files window, and select "open in trimmer" this will open the clip up in a separate window where can scroll through it, set "in and out" points and then move very precise bits onto your timeline.
This seems like alot of extra work at first, but once you get used to it, it will feel easy and you'll appreciate how much more precise it is than randomly generated clips. (this made me so mad when I started, that I actually switched from adobe and vegas to some WMM knockoff called cyberlink power director, and almost bought it in fact. Trust me, it's not worth it.
2) highlight the part you want to watch (click>drag) and hit "shift>b" it'll take a second to scrub through the footage, and then you can watch it smoothly.

Re: A whole bunch of Questions about Sony Vegas Pro 8.0
1. if you go into your options you can set Vegas to open clips in the trimmer using a double click if you like that way you don't have to right click each time. I believe that a double click is originally set to put the video on the time line by default.
2. also make sure you are using lossless footage because lossy codecs tend to lag more and have major quality issues

Re: A whole bunch of Questions about Sony Vegas Pro 8.0
I have anather HUGE QUESTION
3) Every time i put a clip in the timeline and click on edit/pan crop it always goes to the box where the trimmer and video fx are. How do i make it go back to the window that pops up when you click edit/pan crop ?
any help would be appreciated.

Re: A whole bunch of Questions about Sony Vegas Pro 8.0
That drove me CRAZY! when I started using Vegas. Cuz I went from WMM to Magix which had 'takes' (same as clips pretty much). Despite most people saying to use the trimmer I just can't get out of the habit and I still do it to the extent that I can.400Degreez wrote: 1) Can you create clips on Sony Vegas ? You can make sub clips in vegas. You do have to start with your footage in the timeline but then you can split it up and save the clips you want by right clicking and selecting 'create sub clip'. They will only save with the specific project you made them in though as opposed to just being available whenever you open the program like in WMM. For that reason I tend to re-use project files when I finish an AMV with an anime and want to make another with the same anime so that I can still use the clips, just clear out the timeline. I'll never get over that habit.
Hope that helped instead of just confusing you.

Re: A whole bunch of Questions about Sony Vegas Pro 8.0
One option to cut down ur footage into smaller fragments is the trimmer that people have told u about
but..if ur too lazy to go through all that process u can always press "s" while in the place u want to split and it will split into two clips...
hope that helps ^^
