I need footage of the battle of waterloo or some sort of equivalent 17th-18th century France battle scene... or some character doing the Napoleon thing (hand in the jacket) Also needed people running a marathon or something that could pass for the battle of marathon... roman soldiers maybe? greek? My anime collection is pretty extensive so I am hoping someone can recommend something I already have. I'm on a short time line here and am in sort of a bind. The key here would be pre-world war European war footage. muslets and cannons.... swords and shields.... etc or something creative that can be instantly associated with marathon and waterloo...
Cheers

Hum...
I haven't seen many anime that fit this description very well, but I did some brushing up, and this is what I came up with:
Valkyria Chronicles
In the 1930's, Europa is split by the Empire and the Federation, the two dominant military powers that divide the continent. The two powers struggle for ultimate supremacy, inevitably starting the E.W.II (Second European War) involving all of Europa.
Gallia, a small independent nation situated between the two super powers now faces attacks from the Imperial Army due to its supplies of Ragnite. The Gallian Army is overmatched by the Imperial forces and must retreat quickly. But just when the nation is about to surrender its capital city, one squad leader's unusual strategy defeats the Imperial Army.
I'll try to think of more, but for now, that's all I've come up with.

I'm not sure if he ever does the hand-in-the-jacket thing, but I know there's a character in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX based on Napoleon. Hopefully, someone more familiar with the series can shed some light on him.
The only anime I know thats readily available and takes place in the proper time frame is Le Chevalier D`Eon. I can't say if the series has a battle scene of the type you are looking for though since I've never seen any of it. From screen shots I've found, it could be used as filler or background.
The other anime is The Rose of Versailles. Well, I suppose if you were in Japan or France (or Germany it seems) you might be able to scrounge up a DVD copy. It's based on the shojo manga of the same name and as such, the artwork is fairly typical of the type and of the production era (mid to late 1970's). Unfortunately, the related "sequel" manga based during Napoleon's empire never got an anime adaptation.
An anime that may have usable battle footage is Last Exile. Although you'd have to deal with the whole airship and associated sci-fi trappings.
As for the Battle of Marathon, you'd probably have to look for historical time-travel anime like Time Trouble Tondekeman!. Or Peabody's Improbable History.

If you just need people running in a marathon (or in a race), then there are a bunch of possibilities. Many series have people running in races (especially during school athletic festivals).
If you need some characters in ancient Greek or Roman garb (possibly running), try Petite Princess Yucie (ep.9?).

MUCH WIN AND AWESOME!!!!
I thought I had managed to stump the org for source... perhaps not....
I didn't see any responses for a few days so i continued my own research and as it happens I picked up le chevalier d' eon of all the show there was i believe there was actually 1 sequence that sort of fit for what I was looking for so props for that suggestion tho it was late it was still usable... and I managed to wrest some useable footage out of battle athletes for marathon tho I still have some time I will research the suggestions you have offered and see if they work better (assuming I can get them in time) if nothing else I will keep note of them if I should decide to go back and remake the video and/or if I should happen to need similar footage in the future. its all a matter of time now
ATT I currently need footage of a surprise party with party poppers and what not something that definitely says Surprise!
I know they are all over the place just a matter of tracking a good one down.
