Releasing AMVs before a contest?

AWA Pro is almost always Do Not Open Until After Christmas kind of thing. Generally people still know what video is mine, since often I am not sure which one of my whacky experimental projects will end up as the Pro entry until I have already likely discussed it with someone, but it does not get released until after Pro is completed.

I meant that I only release it until after pro is over.

for me as I've said it depends on the contest and the video...

for something like AWA Pro wait until all the voting is over. If I make the video specifically for a contest then I'll wait until after that contest to release it. If its a general video that I send out to a few cons then I'll just release it when it's done...

Just don't troll your videos at cons cause if you are a person who goes to several cons you get sick of seeing the same videos over and over again...

I don't wait with releasing. basically because I can't really tell which vid of mine is good, I usually recognize it after few (tens to hundreds) rewatches. So, in fact, I try to release and see which vid is more popular ^^

Which doesn't mean it's the same as the one I find good, I just like to have some comparison ;x

I think it's fine to release it whenever you feel like it. The urge to release and share is strong so I think it's better to get it off your chest and let it go. Like stated before, unless your a super popular editor, it probably won't affect much of anything.

In special cases I wouldn't release a AMV before a contest especially if it's something that you have been working on for a long time. Like me, I'm working on a secret project that I don't plan on releasing until after Anime Expo. That's if I actually make it in this time.
