Going On Program Shopping Spree Tomorrow (What to Buy?)
Just what it says. I have Sony Vegas 7 but am wanting to upgrade to a better editing software program. I'm not too versed in the different editing software's out there. I was thinking of upgrading to a newer version of Sony Vegas, but wouldn't know where to start in knowing which version would be the better one. I'm on a $2500 spending limit, and am hoping that it's enough to afford 2 very good editing programs. I was thinking Sony Vegas 8 or higher (If there is a higher version out) as for other editing programs, I can't really run AE at the moment, because my hardware capabilities are less that standard to run it.
So, a little help in choosing would be nice if you all could help me in this department. Thanks.

Stay with Vegas 7.0, buy AE, install when you get a better computer.

Adobe Premiere pro cs3
Adobe After Effects...
Yeah..thats where its at. You'll probably be able to run AE. I have a really sucky computer and it runs fine even with photoshop and premiere opened. That's basically all you need.

If you know Vegas, you may as well stick with it. It interfaces with AE just fine, albeit not as seamlessly as Premiere does. That said, also get AE (educational if you can). Use the rest of the money to build yourself a spiffy new rig to rock AE with.

Well, here's my current Rig's Specs:
Windows XP
Celeron Processor (Single Core)
512 MB RAM
40 Gig HD
That's about it. Haha, sucky computer I know. And it's a desktop FYI.
Hence the problem with running AE among other programs. Would it be worth it to buy a newer version of Vegas?

Wow, yea you might be able to get by except for the RAM is pretty low. The requirements that Adobe posts for AE are:
Or come to the geek side and build your own.
Also, if you're just making AMVs, then upgrading Vegas probably won't give you anything you really need. The bigger differences don't really affect AMVs. So...I guess it depends on if you plan to do anything else or if you're just sticking with this hobby.
My opinion at least.
But even AE + Vegas wouldn't sap all $2500, so you could at least upgrade your computer while you're at it.Adobe wrote: 1.5GHz or faster processor
2GB of RAM
1.3GB of available hard-disk space for installation, plus 2GB of space for optional content; additional free space required during installation (cannot install on flash-based storage devices)
1,280x900 display with OpenGL 2.0–compatible graphics card

He'd have to buy Premiere along with AE. AE isn't a good amv work-flow without Premiere

^ AE interfaces perfectly well with Vegas. You can't nest projects, obviously, but short of that there's nothing difficult about using AE with Vegas.
