Put yourself in the creators shoes for a second people. I've seen enough threads on the org where an editor has made a complaint about someone "stealing" his/her AMV and uploading it somewhere else. Given that we make neither the anime nor the music, I don't see how people can get so heated up over that, yet at the same time go and complain about larger companies trying to protect content which by all means they have paid for.

I'm not saying that I agree with it, but seriously take a moment to consider it.

People like you are why the anime industry is struggling right now. Get off your ass and support the makers if you love anime so much. Jesus.

Mainly for unlicensed anime, I haven't watched much licensed anime lately. And I can't go out and buy 18+ visual novel games from the stores, or even online. Too young. Music.... well who cares (rhetorical). Movies, I actually do buy em' it was just an example. My computer can't burn blu-ray after all. I usually buy my games unless I'm short on cash and really want it but only for computer, I never download console games and even there I've only done it for 2 non-anime games.

To be fair, hasteroth does have a point. It is easier to download than to go to the store and buy dvds. (or to wait several days / weeks for dvds to be shipped in). Of course, the industry is moving in the direction of easy downloads to cater to lazy people. iTunes is about as easy to use as Napster was, and even if it is a $1 per song, people prefer iTunes. And now that they're moving to DRM-free, iTunes is getting easier / better to use.

And then of course comes BitTorrent. Afterall, the official BitTorrent site has contracts with Fox, Paramount, Warner Brothers, etc. etc. It probably has a contract with Blizzard as well (considering that Blizzard's updater is now BitTorrent based...) I haven't used it yet, but apparently Vuze (makers of Azureus) offers legal torrents of movies and such.

Netflix offers streaming video. And was it Hulu that offers shows supported with only advertisements now? And of course, Cable TV + TiVo / VCR Recorders always works.

"Easier" is winning. And if "easy" is all you want, use the services already avaliable. I want to change copyright law for other reasons (DMCA sux) but definitely not to steal from the artists.

----------

As a side question, more related to the anime thingy... are any anime companies switching over to some sort of streaming / (legal) bittorrenting video?

I heard something about Naruto being available on Crunchy roll now (legally).

Hmm, so I just found this article on Wired about the MPAA and some plans they have in the works to try and deal with copyright infringers. I thought it could kind of apply to this topic, though it isn't about youtube.

Thoughts? Think ISPs should [be able to] get involved in this manner?
... yea ...

There is no way they'll go through with that. Especially since the internet providers will lose about 25% of their customers

I think if you like anime and you want to make AMVs then you should buy your footage, I mean I have beautiful rips of FMA for my AMVs and I'm proud to say I support Funimation. People keep complaining about how much the DVDs are over here but in Japan the complete FMA series and the movie is about $300.00 in U.S. currency! And with Rightstuf having so many sales no one should ever complain about anime not being cheap.

This is slightly debatable, but would likely not violate copyright, circumstances pending. If you are doing it purposely to entertain a large group of people, you may be in violation. If you are playing it for a few friends, you aren't. If you are driving down the street with your windows down, you aren't violating copyright.
In England they have ruled in the opposite manner. Intent does not matter - if it's loud enough to hear and is in a public area, even if it's an over-the-air radio broadcast, it's a violation. (and in the case in question they sued police officers)
I believe it's more of a public disturbance matter than a copyright matter. I'd always been taught to keep the music down even before copyrights came into question (afaik, since the mid 90's is when I first heard a rule like this) Now obviously it's become much stricter, but the root is public disturbance, copyright infringement would be a much weaker angle to take.

I mean if I were a lawyer I'd have them booked on public disturbance charges :D.
If you do not think so... you will DIE
