Well I'd like to tell peoples. You won't necessarily get a out of synch video when editing 23.976 footage while editing on a 24fps timebase. The reason for this is that when you preview your video, you're viewing what the final output will look like @ 24fps. It does not really matter if you speed it up or not.

If however, while previewing things just don't look right, or they look out of synch, then go ahead and adjust the source frame rate.

The reason I wanted it to stay @ 24fps, is becaus we're going to be bringing this all back into Premiere again to synch the clips back up. If all your segments are at 23.976 then we must speed them up, synch them up, export it out @ 24fps and then slow it back down again.

What I am thinking we will do next time is have people send in their sped up segments, without slowing them down. We'll take them into Premiere, export the 24fps clip, then slow the entire finished project out at once.

However this time around, I wanted to do something that I hoped would be quick and easy. Though telling you not to do what the guides tell you to do seems a little backwards :p

I just didn't want new editors to sweat over the schematics of getting it to 23.976 from Premiere's 24fps output. Just let them take their source in at whatever frame rate, as long as the previews look good @ 24fps, then the final export will look good.

About Premiere. I believe Premiere uses a Bilinear resize, I could be wrong, it could be Bicubic, who knows, it doesn't look half bad. You can have Premiere add black borders and center the video by making sure you have the "Maintain Aspect Ratio" option checked under Video Options. I would do this BEFORE you start cutting the clip up, or else you'll have to goto each cut and check the same option over again

If you've started editing already you can use AVISynth like RadicalEd0 suggested...

I'm using Avi synth to edit with the vob's from my dvd (sounds like some wierd rap lingo :P ). I just use this code as an avs file

LoadPlugin("C:\path_to_mpeg2.dll\MPEG2DEC.DLL")
MPEG2Source("C:\path_to_footage\akira.d2v")
LoadPlugin("C:\path_to_decomb.dll\Decomb.dll")
Telecide()
Decimate(cycle=5)
LanczosResize(720,360)
AssumeFPS(24)
Addborders(0,60,0,60)

This is for my anamorphic footage. If your footage already is letterboxed then you won't need the lanczosresize or the addboarders.
(correct me if I'm wrong  don't want to accidently confuse people)

For the record jon, if you've got the newest version of the AMVapp then you don't need to do the the first 'LoadPlugin' script for MPEG2DEC.dll anymore.

Just saving you some typing
Everyone is not the same as you.
Get over it.
And lighten up.
