I noticed that just about everyone else's videos besides mine have really short clips which make them look a lot better than the ones I've tried to do. :) I like how you have short clips that keep up with the song. I really need to practice so I can get to make one as good as you have one day.

I thought the theme of your video was really sweet, although I always thought Mamimi was creepy.

Hi there! Welcome to a-m-v.org. ^-^

Gee - FLCL vids are always so wacky - how could they be otherwise? ;p

Here is some critique - and feel free to disregard any points which don't feel true to you -
First off, I really don't like intros that are longer than a few seconds. I don't know how it got to be 'cool' but I've always hated them. XD
0.10 - liked the fast switching and also the scenes afterwards - it gave a kind of detached reminiscing effect.
0.30 - nice lipsync. At this point I would say you've got some practice in making AMVs - I'm impressed so far.
0.55 - what was that 'mamini' subtitle that came on? :o
- I'm starting to think the font you picked was a little plain... and maybe you could have made a motion blur and lessened it as the opacity increased. (so it's blurry and comes into form as it manifests)
- personally, I think the quick scene changes were great at the beginning, but for the body of the AMV, it would have been nicer to have complete scenes. I think the reason I would prefer that is to make the beatsync stand out more (if it's there all the time, it lessens the effect) and really get the audience's attention on what's happening in the scenes. If it changes a lot, the attention is always disrupted by figuring out what's going on in the new scene (for a split-second).
1.42 - liked the sync with the blue things lighting up :?:
2.22 - there was a heck of a lot of blocking (i.e. blocks instead of a smooth gradient) You can consult this guide - meant to be comprehensive.. if you want.
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/avtech/
(but no need to read all of it - just skip to the bit that's relevant to you. Mostly how to improve video footage - what I've learned from it is to export uncompressed from the editing program, then use AVISynth with filters to improve the footage, then use AVISynth to convert to a distributable format. And you're welcome to make a post in the 'video' section of the forum if you get stuck. )
2.30 - I like the way you're changing the scenes to a slower, different beat :)
heh heh, that was funny at the end with the guitar string syncing. XD And THANK HEAVENS someone knows how to put references in their vid. @_@ (is the "please rate and comment" because you posted it on YT? XDDD ) Liked the way you put an audio clip under the credits - made it seem like that was the hook for the video.

All in all, you chose the scenes intelligently and there were some parts I thought the style fitted very well, but other bits I would have liked a contrast (as in not the same quick beat changes all the way through). But I like how you made it seem like their relationship was the constant theme throughout the AMV and series, which was highlighted by the very different scene choices. I thought the fast picture changes also worked well when they seemed like snapshots of one scene (e.g. 3.01-3.03) Nice work! ^^

I do apologise for the bad quality and thanks for the link tellin me how to improve( im still stuck with wmm) and about the subtitles, when the first one shows up it was to show his guilt for what he was doing at the time. and you are correct about the (please rate and comment) being for YT, in the future ill try to take that out of the versions for this site, as well as the opening

Thanks for the review :)

You used WMM? Couldn't really tell, actually. :o

And there is pre-processing with the filters you can do on your source footage, which would help smooth it out, I think. I don't think WMM has an option to export uncompressed.

Cheers!

He could export WMV and still apply filters to that in avisynth.

Yes, but I really think the damage would have been done because of WMV's compression. Those dark blue blocks amidst the medium blue were HUGE! (I mentioned the spot in my original critique) I don't think AVIsynth would remove those in post-processing. Using the filters on the source footage would hopefully remove WMM's tendency to create the blocks in the first place.

...that's what I was thinking, anyway. >.> <.<
