We have Successfully Infiltrated the Minds of the Youth

Post by LittleAtari » Tue Mar 03, 2009 11:58 pm

As some of you may already know, I'm a double major in Game Development and Digital Cinema. As a 2nd student, the knowledge gained from AMVs has definitely given me an edge over a lot of the other students. At first I thought it was great that I had knowledge of editing and everything that came with it, but I'm starting to see use for AMVs pop up every now and then.

This quarter, AMVs have come up twice. Once in my animation class, when discussing frame rates, my teacher claimed that he couldn't see a difference between 30 and 60 fps. So I showed him Auriga at both frame rates and so:

It has been posted on the course site for all the students to download and view for themselves. (Note: this page is specifically for students taking the course, you will not be able to get in)

The second time was during my "Ethics in Gaming and Cinema" class, in which remixing and fair use was brought up. At the front of the remixing topic is AMVs:

While the entire thing is about copyright and other stuff, my professor skipped straight to 16:38 which is where they start talking about remixing and just about minute after AMVs. Unfortunately, we were nearing the end of class and so we didn't get to have much of a discussion on it, but I do plan on sending my ethics professor a full AMV, probably The Making of Auriga, for reference and tell him a little about AMV making.

It's always cool to see stuff like this pop up.

Awesome.

Seems to have a better outcome than the time I (accidentally) unleashed a professor of mine on the Org.

Yeah? What happened?

Well, I'm sure he didn't shut it down or give all your vids 1/5. :P So what's the story?

Agreed. Though I would have showed Running Man, but nevermind. |:>

I don't think much ever actually came of it. Got an A on my final paper, though!

I also went to DePaul.

In fact, I started Twilight last year as my AE (I forget the actual name of the course) final project. I had to twist my professor's arm to allow me to make an AMV as my final. He approved, and I got an A.

Isn't DePaul one of those schools that puts those crappy commercials on TV that make you think there must be all of 5 students going there?

Or maybe I'm thinking of a different school :nose:

No idea. I have not seen any DePaul commercials lately (nor do I really watch TV). If you're thinking it's primarily an online school, then you're incorrect. DePaul is a privately funded (supposedly catholic) university.
