hosting dilema

Ok let me start off by saying I'm not to sure where this topic would fit best, so I had a choice of here or off topic, but I choose here because

a. this has to deal with the hosting of amvs ( and this forum is about amvs )

b. off topic, well perhaps but usually more off topic stuff is posted there than this post and more people visit this forum.

1. Deos anyone know how much people can simultaniosly ( no, i can't spell for crap don't ask why i hate spelling ) download a 65 megabyte video with pretty good speeds, with

a. 5 gigs of bandwidth
b. 12
c. 16
d. 50

2. Deos anyone know a good host for up to $10 monthly ( I'm just a freshmen, don't have a job, and parents think its a waste of money, grrr )

If so how much space and bandwidth do you get???
Also do you have to pay monthly or anually ( yearly )

Define a "pretty good speed". Also, I think you're confusing "bandwidth" and "download limit". The only people who can transfer in the gigabyte/sec (or even multiple gigabit/sec) rates are the Internet backbone providers and the military. (Theoretically, something around an OC-23 would give you gigabit bandwidth, and I assure you that _very_ few people have those. For gigabyte/sec bandwidth, it's something around an OC-184.)

Good luck is about all I can say. Transferring videos is not cheap; if you do find a $10/month commercial host that will let you store and transfer 65 MB files routinely, let me know.

I got in contact with a friend who works for an Internet security company, and since he has a personal server co-located at his employer's workplace, he let me use a small portion of the throughput. There's around 400 MB remaining on his servers' drives, since he uses it for his stuff too, like Otakon 2002 pictures and miscellaneous stuff.

So, I get access to a fractional T1 and a few hundred megabytes of space, and I'm happy with that.

That's one way to get hosting, actually: ask a tech-savvy friend

yea a gig per sec , i didn't even know such speeds were possible, hell if I could have that Id be one of the happiest and luckiest people alive. Well whatever it is decent speeds like im not sure cuz different people have different opinions but >10k is pretty good for me.

hey, new hosting option i'm handing out....

see my sig...click the link. there's a thread that gottaname has started about hosting. good deals i think....

his smallest package goes for 200mb for 7$ a month. you get unrestricted bandwith and file size upload. the largest package is a 1gb for 19$ a month. nice numbers, eh? plus the servers are the same servers that bring you Counter Strike. so me thinks that's pretty stable and a mass of ppl can dl.

also, he's doin a bandwith test that you can participate. basically, he'll host one (or two depending on the availability) of your vids for free for one month (dec1 - jan 1)...what he wants you to do is advertise your vid like hell and bring on as much download and traffic you can to your vid. this is to test the bandwith of his account. you can help him test it and if you like the service...go ahead and sign up with him. me thinks is a good deal....
