It's a matter of size...

Post by Vivaldi » Mon Jan 26, 2009 5:06 pm

Over the years, the "standard" display size for amvs has gradually been getting bigger, the current most common would be 848x480. But are you ever annoyed when having to watched older vids? (This question is mostly directed at newer members,) I'm not just talking about tiny 320x250 ones, do you feel a notable lack of enjoyment just from sizes like 720x360? If not, is that because it actually doesn't bother you, or is it just an acceptance that it was the best they could manage at the time?

Personally it doesn't bug me, but I'm curious what the members who started with HD and fullsized footage think.

Hmm... 720x360... 2:1 ratio... yeah, I'd be annoyed with that because it would probably be stretched :P

I'm not new, but I have been a bit put off in recent times since I've changed to bigger computer screens. Full screen just isn't the same anymore. It hasn't stopped me from wanting to watch the classics or smaller resolution videos though...

If you have a problem with size, you can always take some kind of enlargement pills...

Those large resolution videos look great but
I really don't mind the video's size as long as it doesn't look like a mess of blurriness.
Yeah, im not new either though

And I just bought a 42" HDTV. Now NEW videos on the other hand, I am far less forgiving if the quality is really, really awful.

I'll usually watch new vids on my HDTV as well... I judge them (for quality) based on that and my 1680x1050 monitor resolution.

Video Quality is way down on my list of considerations on how good a video is, below Audio Quality at least. Unless there is text or effects or somesuch that don't turn out right at a really low res, it doesn't bother me at all.

That's ridiculous as anything short of 720p will look sub par. Not to mention a lot of older shows aren't very crisp to begin with.

As the thread title suggests, this obsession is indeed of truly phallic nature/proportions, IMHO. I don't really give a damn. I even watch a fair amount of video from streaming sites on full-screen and frequently find it tolerable. I'm much more interested in substance of content - though I will appreciate good video quality, it's not an overriding concern that will spoil the experience for me. In the same vein, I still adore many old movies that survive today in jerky, poor-colour film copies - and would watch them over crappy HD blockbusters any freaking day.

If a video looks noticeably 'bad' I simply don't watch it full screen. 'Problem' solved.
