Question for non-Americans
I've recently decided to write a story that would be deemed illegal in every country in the world. For example, if I quote DeCSS it'd be illegal in the US. In much of eastern Europe encouraging communism will technically violate the law. Similarly promoting nazism is illegal in some European countries. In China it's illegal to pray, for given denominations of prayer. Islamic law countries would deem 'Muhhamad buggered little boys' to be illegal. In Russia it seems that publishing anything at all in a non-state controlled newspaper is a death sentance.
Now I need a little help here. There's a lot of nations in the world. That's a lot of research to produce something that could possible get me arrested anywhere in the world. So for you poor fools stuck in countries other than the US, what could I include that would violate your nations laws?

Bad mouth Pier Trudeau. Most Canadians don't give two shits about slander and all those pointless laws. But bad mouth Trudeau and you'll get lynch mobbed.

Re: Question for non-Americans
I believe specifically rousing Japan to take militarily aggressive action against a described target is illegal in Japan. So like saying "ZOMG JAPAN SHOULD TOTALLY ATTACK CHINA" would actually be illegal.
Korea is easy, glorification of the North Korean state is sedition under the law.

Not so simple.godix wrote:In Russia it seems that publishing anything at all in a non-state controlled newspaper is a death sentance.
Russia has recently introduced a very creepy set of laws covering treason and sedition, which among their nicer features include a provision to bypass the jury trial and instead go to a trial by troika (panel of three) which has the power to convict a person of treason and 'award' a prison sentence of up to 15 years. OTOH, this only applies to Russian citizens, so that wouldn't work for you.
The laws on possession/production of written material are actually remarkably lax in Russia. I don't think you could get nailed on that. Most of the laws regarding content deal mostly with (commercial) distribution. Ethnic/racial hatred/stereotyping/misrepresentation is a big thing they're touchy on to the point of absurd - for instance Borat was banned from Russian theaters/official retail for this reason, which of course made it wildly popular as a pirated item.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

If you want to get banned in Poland there's a lot of things you could do. I'd say the easiest way would be to write that the German concentration camps in Poland where actually built and managed by Poles. You'd probably start a shitstorm with that.

I thought I should make it clearer.Kionon wrote:South Korea is easy, glorification of the North Korean state is sedition under the law.
In the north, glorification of the North Korean state is required by law. Slandering Kim Jong-il is punishable by death.
