Here's another one!

A priest, a rabbi and a shaman all collab to make a video. Except there's no rabbi and no shaman, and it's actually my happy birthday video... And the priest is stealing all my videos to make it.

And he's actually my dad and he's not a priest.

My dad stole my videos... Alot.

So, I don't think anyone really understands... Are we talking cutting up vids and putting the segments onto a big tape, or are we talking about collecting whole videos and sticking them onto some sort of "collection" to show off?

As for attribution, It's fairly obvious that "Editor A" didn't create the music or anime (in the overwhelming majority of cases), but it's not clear that "Editor B" did minimal work to pass off A's product as his own - that's why citation is important. It's the same as if you were writing a book on an historical event. Being there doesn't require you to site "life experiences" - but if someone writes a book later on that uses what you wrote, they cite your book and the conclusions you drew as a reference - giving credit where credit is due and admitting that the clever bits didn't actually come from them.

You cite it Informally... with stuff in the credits and/or the place they host it. That's all anyone's responsible for. If "C" lifts "B's" work and strips the citations "B" made, the onus of responsibility isn't on "B". That's just "C" being a douche.

Just for completeness sake, I want to point out that I mean "video mixtapes" as in the underground phenomenon, not literally like that. I think Wikipedia explains it best: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_mixtape

If anyone knows of any VMTs containing AMVs, or having a similar approach but using Asian content, I would be very interested to hear about those. I have to admit watching Japanorama and the Asian stuff on the Retard-O-Tron videos is quite a guilty pleasure

Given the Wikipedia definition, the comment about AMV Hell makes a crapload of more sense. Essentially, think of a far less organized or content-restricted form of an MEP - even though from the Wiki article, it seems some have more organization than others.
