Re: Death Note - Cant Keep On Running Away
Very very bad. Terrible effects, media generators look like shit, as do the masks\picture cutouts or whatever the fuck you used. There seemed to be no plot going on, the little bit of editing it did have was horrid as well. Quality....oh god, adult swim ripped episodes, are you kidding me? There are really NO good points to mention for this video.

Re: Death Note - Cant Keep On Running Away
(WTF????
You'll get all types of people around here - have fun learning, that's the main thing - and you'll improve heaps technically. There's an IRC channel floating around too, where you can pop in anytime and ask (politely) for a beta review... but haven't heard much about it recently. :/ )
Death Note fan here!
First thing - the file size seemed rather large, especially if the quality is off Adult Swim, like Arashi said???
(OK, my comp can't handle it - resizing the window
)
0.00 - You seemed to mask OVER the letters, chopping off the light beams. I thought masking the letters themselves would work better (because it was too simple to be a curtain effect)
0.05 - It really is great you're experimenting with advanced effects, but the effects themselves seemed to not fit.
0.22 - Better to use full pictures - the one with Light's head chopped off at the top looked unpolished. And you have an L desktop helper?
0.28 - OK, glad that intro was actually announcing your group, rather than the AMV itself. (BTW - I personally never got the importance of intros - I really think they are unnecessary. But if you MUST use one, try to keep it around 10 seconds. I'm not made of bandwidth, kthx
)
0.30 - Hm, unusual - and the movement was quite well done (except L seemed to stretch weirdly with the closeup, plus the picture background between L's arm and body wasn't cut out) I think the problem is that you were stretching the images - zooming the images would be more accurate, IMO. (and blurring them more as they get closer)
0.50 - the "go" bit made me chuckle
0.52 - the yellow lightning in the background doesn't fit Death Note - the lightning was more of a pale blue, if anything. Movement and fading of everything was uniform.
1.35 - not a fan of writing being on the wall, so to speak - thought the red letters fitted better though.
1.40 - I was confused - the song lyrics had "I" and "you" but some seemed to make sense from Light's POV and some made sense from L's POV- so whose POV is it from, and did you give any indication when you were changing it? (like change of verses, lipsync with the character speaking)
1.56 - the second pane from the left and on the bottom row was slightly higher than the others
2.07 - I'm really not a fan of people overpimping their name - you had it as the first thing, and also at the end.
Somewhere, I realised that the window in your project was bigger than the source footage. Good to have it the same size, because it's not as if most of the clips in this AMV went outside that rectangle.
There's a guides section you can get off the main page when you log in (the menu on the left) - this is a good one
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/avtech/
It's got so much detail, but downloading the AMVapp and cleaning (which helps compressing) would help you. (and aiming for 40 MB for this length of an AMV would be better)
All in all, I think it's great you're using advanced effects (because I can't yet - mine are gradually getting more complicated, though) but there were some which seemed very harsh and stood out like a sore thumb. (e.g. the boring font with plain colours for words). It is nice to see that people put effort into making their AMVs and looking at number of effects is one way to judge, but I don't believe that people should put in effects for effects' sake alone - to enhance the storyline of their AMV, lyrical sync, somehow get more meaning out of the footage etc. But the effects I really DID like were the cutouts, the way they changed direction at the same time, the screens at the back and the mottled lighting on the floor (all at 32 sec), Kira giving his evil look on the public TV (XDDD) 1.09, 1.40 - the two frames - saved time, saw his back and face (and btw, it seemed you slowed it by half and the footage was jerky - maybe try slowing it to 40% or some other number so the frames blur a bit - but maybe it's my computer, come to think of it), and liked the way you made the frames appear over time (1.55).
OK, cheers!

Re: Death Note - Cant Keep On Running Away
Thank you so much for this review. i can see that i need some more practice. and not to just focus on the effect but the Music and flow it self.
And it did take along time to make (the most complex beggings i did - i do need to shorten them i bit )
and thank you for telling the positives about my AMV to.
Thanks m8 for your review
maybe ArashinomeAMV should read your review and maybe he might learn a thing or two with giving proper Reviews.

Yes, I can see that it took a long time to make. It'll all get refined, don't worry!
And re: ArashinomeAMV... just be prepared for the opposite of sugar-coated in this place (i.e. he's not one of a kind). But he did mention things you could improve that was specific to your AMV - that's helpful (even though it wasn't said nicely).
Er, I find it easier to give extreeeeemely specific reviews - I can type while watching it, but it's not what people usually do. (there is an opinion exchange forum - you can post your vid and ask them to give an opinion, and they will post their vid and you review theirs - tit for tat - opinions are a function of the main site - link is somewhere below the description of the AMV)
Also, check out the top 10% list (on the members page in the main site - the links are on the right). Quite an experience!
So from someone who went from a shocked n00b to liking the place, stick around - you'll get desensitised to the language and improve technically very quickly. It really is great.

(yay go the Aussies =p )
