Thanks, that seems like I've read it before. lol. But I did find it helpful, and I've read the guides, though the technical ones about cleaning up footage and stuff, kinda went over my head. But I've never been a learn by the book gal...I don't think I opened my first text book seriously until Herpetology in college. (only b/c the professor liked to test off of everything, including a text book he never referenced).

I think sync is really something that comes from experience, and from watching a lot of amvs.
Looking back on a lot of my first videos, I know I put a lot of effort into syncing them back then, but now, it looks to me like I didn't even try. Some of my own stuff looks to me like its not even synced. When you are going through a timeline slowly, you might hear a certain little something, and it might stand out to you as something which you can sync to. However if you zoom out and look at the broader picture, syncing there might not work within the context of the whole video... if that makes sense.

While not a Canadian, I have been a figure skater for 13 years, and I don't get this...
I was almost gonna say that amv creators always fall through the ice? :P

I'll mirror the comments about watching experience contributing to the I.D.'ing of various sorts of sync. It does indeed take a trained eye to make sure there's an established flow, and that trained eye comes from watching others' videos and from attempting to utilize those techniques you've seen in your way videos (albeit in your own way, of course).

I'll also add that Internal Sync can also include more general Motion Sync, where the movements of the camera or other background elements, not just the characters, affect the way the sync appears.

I do switch between different styles of sync in my own videos, but it generally arises from where my focus goes when editing. When singing is going on the cuts tend to get longer and stay close to the source material, unless there's something going on in the backing music that just cannot be ignored. Another thing is that you can maintain several forms of sync at the same time - Internal, Mood, and Lyrical Sync can all be used at one time, or Cut, Mood, Lyrical, or other combinations, as long as they all contribute to the larger theme or style of the video. It's as much about knowing when certain types are appropriate to use as it is about simply being able to use them.

So kinda like how when I look back on a piece of art I did 3 years ago... and I remember thinking it was very good...and now I look at it and cringe. lol. Very true, I can see how that could happen.
