I'm not sure how familiar all of you are with it, but for people who can't afford hosting at the present time (yours truly included), this is possibly the best solution you'll find.
Priuscomet mentioned in an earlier thread an E-mail they received regarding it. Well, that E-mail was me ^_^
Here's a quick run-down of the system....
FilePlanet Advantages:
FREE! You don't pay for disk space, bandwidth, OR traffic
File size limits are 200MB I think. I have yet to see a vid that big
Unlimited files
Easy upload form
User voting
FilePlanet disadvantages:
Membership -- This really is a minor disadvantage. You need basic membership in order to upload or download files. It's free, though, and it takes maybe five minutes to set up
Approval time -- After filling out the form and uploading your file, it can take 10-14 days for your file to be approved and posted. Patience is a virtue.
Line-based FTP dwnload -- This is where it gets sticky. The Public FTP servers at FilePlanet are designed (like most FTP) to only serve so many at once. The way FP runs theirs is that when the servers are full, any newcomers need to wait in line to downoad their file (Unless you pay for a subscription to their magazine. Then you can use the private servers and there's no wait). It sounds like a pain in the ass, but estimated wait time is typically under an hour. And after that, the download itself is REALLY quick.
But if you're in desperate need of hosting, this is a good temporary solution until you can save up for that domain name. I already have one video up there that I have yet to get an opinion on ( link if you're interested http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... hp?v=11855 )
Anyways, give FilePlanet a chance if you really need reliable hosting

i'm glad someone was paying attention when i mentioned this....
however....this does put a restrain on the number of downloads cuz sometimes you'll get ppl who are uber lazy (like myself) and don'thave an account with file planet (but i do) and so they can't download the vid unless they sign up.
hopefully there aren't many ppl like that!

Well pardon some of us for not being rich enough to afford paid hosting. I'm a chronically broke college girl with enough trouble living from paycheck to paycheck. I can't afford to be shelling out $60+ a year to host a video.
And I have yet to find a free host that can support disk space larger that 50MB (a typical AMV is near 60) AND allow multimedia files. Not to mention a free host without filesize limitations. If you know of one, fling the URL my way.
Heck, you're missing out on some really good videos simply because you don't have the patience to wait.
Let me put it this way. If I can download stuff off FilePlanet with a 56K dialup ON TOP of the waiting-in-line time, then YOU have no excuse.

Oh wait, I don't care! Fileplanet are corporate whores! THe waiting in line bullshit is just a sales tactic to entice people into buying their personal server service and to view their ad banners!
By the way, I have access to a personal server account that a bunch of my friends all chipped in and paid for because they download a lot of game related files.. so no, I'm not missing out, nor do I have to wait in line.
My excuse is that I had to sit on 28.8 dialup for years and years. Guess who downloaded raw episodes of Tenchi GXP, AMVs, mp3s, other assorted anime, games, and a lot more - all on a connection that isn't even half the speed of yours?
