MADs

Post by Flusel » Fri Nov 21, 2008 3:39 pm

Hi,

I am sorry if this is obvious or something, but searching for "mad" is not very intelligent on an english board.

I want to know where to find MADs in original source (not any streaming-site like metube or else) or if someone has a great collection of very good ones or if there is a website like a-m-v.org for japanese produced AMVs. Just to widen my AMV-horizont which is only a-m-v.org so far.

Might be of some help. :P

Sadly, the vidid tags are screwed, but I bet you know how to reach the videos anyway. XD

There's not really any source for them.

Nico Nico Douga is a good site, but it's like Japanese ONLY. It's streaming, but there is an option to download the original video, apparently.

http://www.nicovideo.jp/

(google english instructions on how to join)

NicoNicoDouga is awesome, but it is hard to navigate unless you're really fluent, and the quality is not much better than the sack. I can read Japanese at an elementary school level, and I get lost pretty quickly. As for the quality of the original videos, it isn't very good, at least not for download purposes.

Actually, NicoNico has a German mirror site (http://de.nicovideo.jp/), so there is an alternative option. Unfortunately, my German skills have deteriorated horribly since I graduated High School, so I had to use the English tutorial. That said, DivX's Stage6 was pretty good about it for a while, don't know if they are anymore (and it was possible to simply grab the file address from the site source code and download manually, but maybe that got 'fixed').

You could look around *ahem* certain sites for the four MADMovie.org packs, although I don't know if any of them are seeded well enough anymore.

Aside from those two options, your best bet is probably to go scouring around on Winny, Share, or Perfect Dark, although for those first two the security protocols have been compromised by Japanese authorities, and the latter one is kind of hit-and-miss.

Compromised is a... nice way of putting it.

Winny is dead, period. And Share has lead to several arrests this year in Japan. I don't know what they could do to you, but what they could do to me does not make me happy. It is very hard to run afoul of the police in this country, but if you do, believe it or not, the Japan has a very, very bad human rights record when it comes to police. Miranda rights, lawyers, telephone call, trial by jury... those are things General McArthur made the foolish mistake of assuming the Japanese would simply do, and therefore, were not enshrined in their constitution. As such, they don't. Interrogations are so brutal that conviction rate here is 90% because of what we would consider coerced confessions that stand up in the Japanese court system.

The arrests (at least the ones reported) had to do with RAW sharing, or the leaking of police records. Have there been more far-reaching reasons yet, such as merely even running the software itself?

Are there any readily-accessible IRC channels that deal in MADs? That would be another option.
