Song relevance question
Alright so I was thinking of doing an amv with Flogging Molly - What's Left of the Flag. And at first the lyrics and the mood certainly meet the idea I had in plan but I did research on the song and apparently it has a deeper meaning then I thought with some war in Ireland and even constant mentioning to the colors of the Irish flag.
Now going ahead with my plan seems almost sacrilegious and even tho I normally don't care if people are offended by any work I do the fact that an amv would only be relevant to the song in a shallow form turns me of.
Any thoughts or similar experiences?

I've seen some songs re-interpreted in AMVs to mean totally something different from what they "really" mean.
Then I've seen AMVs that have no real connection with lyrics. My favorite example:
Uses a Russian song (which I originally gave the coordinator of the Iron Chef match this video came from) that is a clever satire about commercialized/superficial "spiritual" people. I like the song and speak Russian, and the video doesn't even so much as approach having anything to do with the lyrics. The result? I still dig the video
Doesn't bother me any, seriously.

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

i think it depends... I've seen videos that take the original song and make it better than it is on the surface... jihaku is a prime example of that.

I think its allwright not to always follow the lyric synch,
good scene selection > good lyric synch
so if a scene goes with the flow of the music and not necessarly with the lyrics.... its up to you what you choose but most people won't really see a deeper connection with the song and the picture anyways.
