We tried that but had problems, we mix them up to keep people from leaving during Romance/Drama category.
rofl XD
That is actually pretty funny.

Sad, but true. A lot of people don't like the sappy vids that are usually in Drama.
They mixed up the entries at AE this year, and I thought it was fantastic. I find the problem isn't necessarily the drama vids in and of themselves (although they do tend to be the audience's least favourite to watch), I think it's the "tl; dr" syndrome. It's like getting smacked with a wall of text---you know that for the next 20 minutes or so, things are going to be slowly paced, no action, etc. Drama/romance vids don't tend to break out of their respective editing moulds much so people get...bored.
Not true, at all. Everyone has their own way of enjoying a drama video and I can say that makes no sense at all. Whats the point of having the contest then? Do you not enjoy them?

Think about the people that put a good amount of effort into the videos and then say they are boring. It's drama, it's supposed to create emotion.
I can say the same thing about action and comedy videos, but I wont.
I wasn't saying the videos *themselves* are boring. I said that people get bored after a solid block of them.

No offense was meant. And obviously this is just my opinion based on my experience. I'm certainly not saying that people don't get bored during a block of action vids, because yes--*those* tend to look and sound all same-y too.

Perhaps what I meant to convey is that drama/romance vids tend to be longer than the average amv (again, in my experience) and that the songs tend to be quieter and slower. And that can make people antsy.
=O
My drama vids arent quiet and slow... lol.

Personally I like the drama/romance category. But I like all categories. :D

I've been to other cons where they play the contest in blocks sorted by category and it can drag a bit. That is why I mix them up, to keep the audience on edge the entire competition.

Then you've never been to the cons I run contests for

Vlad
well being on the other side of the continent... you see where i'm going

and i understand about the drama category. AX always tries to keep it towards the beginning, while comedy will be towards the end.

drama's just an emotionally draining category, so a lot of "casual amv viewers" tend to get bored.
