Yule-Con AMV contest: Entries in by November 20!

Post by YakkieChans » Mon Oct 27, 2008 5:05 pm

Well hello all! I volunteered to present Yule cons AMV contest, since no one would step up to do it...

I talked to the staff of Yule-con and they said that it would be a good Idea to go ahead and present an Anime Music Video Contest for http://www.yulecon.com (December 5-7) instead of a 'show case'. I got to thinking that it would be a lot easier to just do an audience choice awards contest.

So! Shall we get to the Rules?

RULES:
Please follow these simple rules.

1) All entries must be received by November 20th. No exceptions!
2) Your videos must be submitted on one of the following media formats: CD/DVD in mpeg, or avi format, or emailed to Inuyasha_kun2005@yahoo.com. If you can’t make a DVD or a computer Data disc, you are welcome to send me the link to the uploaded video such as http://www.megavideo.com so I can download it.
3) All entries must be CLEARLY labeled with your REAL name, email address, and phone number. (We will contact you to let you know we received your submission)
4) Only two entry per person/group may be entered in the showcase. If the submitted media/tape contains more than three videos, the LABEL must CLEARLY indicate which videos are to be entered in the contest. If I can't figure it out, none of them will be entered!
5) Each video must be at least 30 seconds long and no longer than 7 minutes. These limits will be strictly enforced. This time limit does not include any opening titles or description text (which we may or may not include in the contest showing).
6) All tapes/media entered become the property of Yule-con and will not be returned.
7) Only videos produced within the past two years are eligible.
8) Videos cannot include subtitles ( ABSOLUTELY NOT)
9) You're welcome to add your 'own' subtitles if they so to it fits
10) Videos and their music/dubbing must be suitable for viewing by a family audience. Adult content will not be permitted.
11) Although it is highly unlikely if you adhere to all of the above rules, Yule-con reserves the right to disqualify any video for any reason.
12) Make sure when you name your vidoes name it: Creator-VideoName-VideoSource-AudioSource.mpeg (So that I will know what it is..)
13) All resolutions MUST be 720X480! 352X240 will do, but I may have to convert to the greater resolution (which would down grade the quality of the video)

Send all DVD/VCD/Data discs to:

DokiKittyProductions
3623 S. 29th West Ave
Tulsa OK, 74107

Please do NOT have the mail to be signed as I am not at home. during the day to sign it. Regular mail will work, trust me.

If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please email me or reply here!

Oh! and remember HAVE FUN!!!!

you should probably have entry forms... also many cons have "labeling conventions" when it comes to naming files, those might go to help you keep things organized

also rules 8 and 9 directly conflict with each other O.o I know what you are getting at there, but yea, that may come off confusing.

can you be clearer on formatting standards?

Also, what are your plans for overseas submissions? I'm not just saying this as a Japanese submission, but even dealing with Canada, much less Europe, comes with a host of issues, especially if an overseas submission wins.

Formats:
.avi
.mov
.mp4
.mpg
mpeg-1
mpeg-2
NTSC VCD
PAL VCD
NTSC DVD
PAL DVD
NTSC SVCD
PAL SVCD

And if you don't think that your AMV is going to work with my coputer, tell me the audio codec/video codec so that I can download it.

And be sure that you send the AMV in early enough from the submission date!

wow, an over seas submission.

If an over seas AMV submission won, I would send that submissionest (provided that they gave me their Name, email addy and address) their prize...

I wasn't just looking for container/codec, I was also thinking of resolution, aspect ratio, framerate, bitrate...

Trust me, if you don't standardize, be prepared to have to end up scrambling to convert everything for the contest. Better to pick a formatting standard you're happy with and make everyone else conform to you.

Nice to know if an overseas submission wins you'll be willing to send the prize to their country of origin. I would definitely play this up, you may get several overseas editors.

Oh! Duh!

lol completely left my mind...

720X480 would be best

If you can't get it that size, 352X240, and I will convert it.

if everyone names their video "Yule-Con2008AMVContest.mpg" then won't you get them all mixed up? as far as which video was made by which editor since they will all have the same name?

a naming convention such as:

Creator-VideoName-VideoSource-AudioSource.mpeg

or similar will better help you to keep it more organized...

Also having an "entry form" will clear up stuff like addresses or places to send prizes (if you add that as required information) if the person doesn't attend the contest, not to mention keep clear what files belong to who.

Also stuff like resolution and aspect ratio are important especially if you are going to project the video onto a screen, because if it's tiny aspect ratio then the video will look highly distorted when projected to a rather "upscaled" version.

Please don't take Kionon's and my crit as us picking on you... We are trying to give you feedback so you can improve your contest and make things easier on you... (not that you are taking it that way... just wanna make sure :P)

I like the form Idea....

And no.. suggestions are good! This is my first Actual contest I am hosting. Yule-con wasn't going to have one until I decided to step up and present it....

I found a couple of forms online by searching for Anime Music Video Entry Forms...but I don't know of stealing them would be good.... I liked how Anime Boston did theirs.... and I edited it a little so that it would fit Yule-con... I wonder if thats okay.. x.x

I donno about directly taking another con's entry form, but I'm sure that looking at other cons to see how they run their contests would probably be a good thing so you can know how much larger conventions do it.
