There's kinda two sides to this from what I can see. On the one hand most "knock off" or "copy cat" videos tend to just be shitty. Let's not kid ourselves here, I can't even remember when I last downloaded a GOOD DBZ AMV...in fact I don't think I've EVER downloaded a DBZ AMV that I would give over a 7 overall.

And then on the other hand If I see a DBZ/Linkin Park AMV or any overly used idea I think I hold it to a much higher standard than if I were to download a lesser used combination. And it's not always just about the music/anime, but sometimes just within the anime itself. I mean I've seen dozens upon dozens upon DOZENS of Neon Genesis vids that pretty much all used the same 25 clips. Sometimes I get the impression that people are just ass raping other peeps vids for parts and then slappin on their favorite song. o_O

On another note there are also some peeps like me who like to do "remakes". In fact my first two videos are both based conceptually on two other AMVs that I found (used the same anime and music). Both of which I thought were absolutely horrible in design and implementation, but the underlying concept was really good. Personally, I think it'd be possible to have a REALLY incredible DBZ/Linkin Park video...I just haven't seen it yet. At some point here soon though, I may just decide to take a crack at it. *shrugs*

Well I always try to be as objective as I can when reviewing videos. But that's the prob with human being - noone can ever be truly objective. But that's another matter...
Anways, I usually don't take into consideration if I like the song used of if I don't. I mean, like DJ Fritz' Beboppin' video with that Lalala-song from Kylie Hottie Minogue. Oh how I hate that song. But when watching the video, I enjoy the song, because the video and the song are kinda made for each other.

And for the overused Anime/Songs... well... if the way the video is done was used many times before, I'm sure to score much lower. But when it is something special, it doesn't matter to me if the combination is already overused. Like the one Linkin Park - In the end - End of Evangelion video (don't remember the title right now).

As always, just my 2 (euro)cent...

I agree. Originality should be judged on how often the _idea_ has been done, not the source.

Tom
orig shouldn't be how often anything imo.... it should be how well it displays what the song/ title is ABOUT (never heard somebody say 'now THAT'S original, they mean the topic fits with the title etc. so well that it's SICK). If it was how often something was you'd be changing it every three months!

When I wrote this form Beboppin' was on of the songs that made me think, I was starting to see the cowboy bebo videos overflow. It was DJ Fritz' Beboppin' and Taskmaster's Phatty girl videos that made me think, "Hey two great videos and completely origanal ideas without getting tired of the anime". You can wacth both these videos back to back and it wont feel redundant.

Originality is just one of the often unexplained numbers that an opinion giver will throw at you. I've often wondered what different people's standards for capture are as well...
People don't explain why they give certain scores? That's odd, as I do so in every one of the opinions I give. I also can't recall anyone who's given me a review not explaining why either.

/Methinks more people should read the opinions guide.
Everyone is not the same as you.
Get over it.

I do as well. It's always good to give at least a sentence to each category explaining why it scored that way. :D

I agree, my Eva video got a 4 for originality from some jackass because "it used the same dozen sceens as all the others." Well, excuse me, and kindly show me a decent video that doesn't.

Then, there are some people who used the opinion feature to rant about something that had nothing to do with the video itself.

Why? To improve your opinion score? =P

To make a long story short, I judge all the vids that I see on a case by case basis.
So in other words, one part of the community is waging war on another part of the community because they take their community seriously enough to want to do so. Then they tell the powerless side to get over the loss cause it's just an online community. I'm glad people make so much sense." -- Tab
