Acronyms such as DMV can sometimes have meaning outside of the more common meaning.. The DMV as opposed to a DMV.

There are several communities for specific fandoms such as hpmvs or lotrmvs (harry potter and lord of the rings) and I wouldn't be surprised if The Matrix has popped up for it's own mv community already... It is really just a matter of being internet savvy enough to find them, and/or just search on livejournal.

The Vidding community tends to cover a lot of bases including Vivacon (a Vidding Convention) however if you want to get more specific I'm fairly sure that someone once compiled a list of communities out there for specific fandoms. I would just have to look for it, but seeing as I just woke up, that's not likely to happen right now..

Youtube has made it a little more scatterbrained with organizing people into communities, and even their "groups" feature falls short on being even remotely organized. Pretty much they are like forums with only one topic section so everything gets jumbled into one place. I once started a community there and it ended up a mess, so I blocked everyone from posting, deleted all but one explanation thread, and shut down entry since I couldn't even delete the thing (I don't know if that has changed, but I suppose I could always look it up and see if it has).

Livejournal seems to be more organized, and considering I'm a long time user, I tend to gravitate more there... but on the tube, most people tend to just up their videos and hope people find them and subscribe, which is why Youtube is the Streaming Video Landfill of the internet.

VividCon. There's also VidUKon. (UK)

It's still in the early stages, but the Organization for Transformative Works is attempting to organize/catalog the fan media space. From the FAQ:
5. Will I be able to upload art and videos as well as stories?

Initially, the archive will only host text. This is so we can get the first version up and running more quickly and so we can work out our costs and our policies before we add the (sadly more expensive and more complicated) hosting of art and video. However, from early on, you will be able to embed art and videos hosted off site.

thanks for the links- I had never even heard of livejournal before. I guess there is a bigger vidding community out there than I thought. And now I know several names to call it :)
