Cast to Stone wrote:So, you're judging a whole community and their music tastes by a couple comments? Because it does seem that way..

But also have to say: Edit for yourself. Not for others. As long as you enjoy editing to a certain kind of music you like, why would you just edit to what the people want to see and hear? Be yourself, don't be what others would want you to be, and keep editing to what you want to edit regardless of the comments.. Constructive criticism that can improve your editing is something you should bother with, "I didn't like that music"-style comments are not.

I...agree with cts...>_>

There's no damage done don't worry. I won't smash my computer and cry and never make an amv again. As I said I'm new; I'm not used to anything here :D
I've realized by now I can't be oversensitive about comments on a site like this; I wouldn't last one day!

Yea! Fuck those music schools where they teach classes and give out degrees on measurable metrics that accurately quantify good and bad in the arts! They don't know what the hell they're talking about!

that's a poor statement. everyone is allowed their own opinion. you need to realize this is part of living in the real world. that said, it's not the end of the world if someone disagrees with you. but to ignore any such opposing opinion is foolish.

In general it apparently would be, but allowing that opposing opinion to affect what you like, listen to or edit to would also be foolish, no?

not necessarily. it's up to you to decide what to take from someone's opinion. you'll find good advice and bad advice, and everything in between. you'll have to figure out what's useful from someone's opinion, and what to do with it.

that's a lot of generalizations. so for example, if you've edited to band X, and someone goes, "band X sucks, you should have used band Y", you can decide to at least give band Y a listen and maybe you'll start enjoying band Y more. or try to see why band Y would fit in an AMV better. or ask your friends, "have you heard of band Y, do you like them?" etc. point is, just because opinions aren't facts, doesn't mean we can't learn from them.

Apparently I can't say anything in this thread without getting complaints :P

Well, I think music is a topic in which objectivity is hard to apply. Therefore, I don't think saying that music IS right or wrong is okay, but of course everyone can say that they THINK music is right or wrong, good or bad.

Think what you like about music and express your opinions, but don't say how you think it is. Because it isn't in any certain way, it's in each individuals experience.
