Post by TwilightChrono » Sat Sep 20, 2008 3:55 pm

I really need some insight on my newest video.

If you choose to beta it, I will send you the details and the link through PM. Your review, I would like posted here in the thread, and after I receive your review, I will Op. Any one of your videos that you choose.

I just really need some advice. So if there are any takers, please post here. Thanks.

Or if you choose, I will Op. your video first.

everything i say here is my opinion and is what I myself would change about your vid. what you agree with is completely up to you.

1. Is it too much beat sync, or is it fine?
i would cut a bit down on your specific beat sync technique. within 0:05 (where the beats change) i would suggest no black fades and perhaps using a scene of raw footage that matched the beats. at 0:11 on, i would change it up completely. i understand you're going for a fast upbeat synchronization, so i would suggest finding another way to keep that momentum going without inducing seizures to the viewer. so keep the focus on something comprehensible, while still including the beat syncing. this could be cropping bars of different scenes together, or masking characters on top of one another. making the frames jolt or bounce (i.e. darkness over the light, the other side of me).
don't be afraid to go off sync once in a while as well. meaning let the video flow a little bit. otherwise it can become very constrictive, not fluid.

2. It's Multi Source footage, combining anime and game footage. The way it looks now, do you think it needs to be refined any? Meaning, is the anime/game footage idea bad for this video?
it's too early in the video to tell. i did find it odd at first, because there was none in the intro, but depending on how the rest of the amv develops, it could work fine.

3. How many sources are too many, as I was planning to use 10 sources.
you can never have too many, or too few sources. it all depends on how you put them together. i would suggest if you have two series that clash with each other visually, keep them separated in your video (aside from any purposeful intentions.) keep in mind that having multiple sources may make your video look choppy. so you'll want to lay together scenes that flow well from one series to another. an example of this is Vlad's Memories Dance. true, it's all miyazaki work so it's an easy example, but between Nausicaa which was early 80s, to Mononoke which was late 90s, there's a definite visual difference between the two movies. however, Vlad was very clever to put together similar looking scenes, making the video look more unified.

4. How is the concept? Is it well executed?
the concept appears to be a flashy dance/upbeat video. if that's what you're going for, then yes, it kept my attention. but if you were intending for me to get any actual story out of it, i had to watch it several times for my brain to register the vast number of visuals you have crammed in there lol.

5: Do I need to cut down on the beat sync, or a better question, what beats do you think are the more important beats or beats that you think I should hit?
...i think i covered this in number 1.

hokay i think that's it. hope i was helpful.

i'll letchu pick which amv of mine to op. i got a lot of em.

Sure thing. It's on the way.

Also, Rider4Z, compy is acting kinda weird. I have your Op. Written, I just gotta wait for my upload to finish before I can do anything. It's lagging hardcore as I write this....it's typing one letter like every 1 second.
