Why are most humans extremely gullible?

Post by x_rex30 » Fri Sep 19, 2008 8:43 pm

From what I've seen anyways. When it comes to things that matter people seem to easily fall for things that I find to be obvious BS.

People need to start thinking for themselves and when it comes to really important things I don't see many people capable of doing that.

You all fall for advertisement, religion, logical fallacies and make concrete conclusions on things that don't have concrete evidence. Stop it I say! :nono:

*facepalm*

If we had to have concrete evidence for everything in life, it wouldn't be a very interesting life, now would it. Besides the fact that just because you think that things like advertisement and logical fallicies are things that are "BS", doesn't mean they actually are.

Who said they wanted concrete evidence for everything? Also I said if you don't have the evidence don't make a concrete conclusion, use science and research.

I also didn't say all advertisement was BS but you didn't seem to get the point. You should try that Enzyte stuff! Did you see the advertisement! It works wonders! I've tried it and it works very well! No I don't work for the company nor did I get paid to say that.. >_> <_<

Ok, so that's one product that didn't work. And they're getting their assed sued too. >_> I'm willing to bet that most products work.

Also, science and research aren't always the best ways to find concrete evidence. A long time ago, scientists were POSITIVE that the world wasn't round and that the sun and universe revolved around the earth. Granted, they have a lot good merit and things are improving over time, but we also need to realize that science isn't an all-powerful thing that doesn't ever make mistakes.

Thanks for proving my point that you can't go off making concrete conclusions on things without concrete evidence.

I haven't heard anyone say that there aren't mistakes in science. Human after all aren't we? Of course scientists make mistakes and I don't think they are dead on with everything. I don't believe in perfection actually and someone out there not being able to make mistakes doesn't exist IMO.

See, that's why I love living in canada. If someone says their product does something it doesn't, they are in trouble.
But like chrono said, it's the things we don't understand that intrigue us the most. We are scared of what we don't understand, and roller coasters are proof that we love nothing more then to be scared.
Also, you have to remember that people on this site are of a certian level of intelligence ( or so i like to believe) so bitching about stuff like this usually doesn't get anywhere, as we're mostly a smart (ish) crowd who don't fall for cheap scams.

We need dumb gullible people that blindly follow orders without thinking - how else would we staff our walmarts, pump our gas, flip our burgers, and fight our wars?

can you give an example other then just listing things you don't agree with?

I'm not a religious person, maybe a little spiritual though, but I don't think if someone believes in a higher power that they are "gullible" in that regard. if you believe all religions are wrong, then i think you're quite gullible yourself. There's no concrete evidence either way. I wont even go as far to say anything in the Bible is incorrect, I think it's all accurate in context. Nothing is wrong with religion, the problem is when someone tries to force everyone around them to conform to it or use it as a means to further their own agenda.

Some of the smartest and wisest people I know have what I would call far-out beliefs and would fit into your so called list of "stupid gullible" people. Their beliefs are what make them who they are and I wouldn't want it any other way.
