Feel like I need to have seen the anime to understand this one.
You haven't seen Death Note or heard of the premise ? You've been under a rock for the past two years. :P
I blame AMVs: they turned me off to anime.
However, I hear that the Death Note live action movie (movies?) is out on DVD this week so I may have a look.

I'll be honest, I found pro dissapointing this year.

Mostly because of the exhuberent number of romance entries. Normally I wouldn't mind this but it made something very clear to me. Romance videos are RIDICULOUSLY cliché. This really has nothing to do with the Shinkai entries (though that did make it worse) but most Romance videos seem to employ the exact same editing techniques so they become entirely interchangable with one another with none standing out because inevitabley they all seem the same in the end.

there were some good videos, don't get me wrong, but overall I think Pro has been stronger in the past.

This pretty much sums up my thought on it overall.... I thought previous years were better, but it was far from bad enough to make me give up on it entirely. Pro is still the most fun contest as far as I'm concerned (and increasingly, given the increasing number of conventions on which I'm staff, one of the only ones I can enter :P).

I'm of two minds on the whole matter of being able to submit two entries. On one hand, doubtless some people just threw together a second video and submitted it. On the other hand, it gives me the chance to make yet another video that I wouldn't normally be able to do much with elsewhere.

You are not really making a case for the two entries option considering that you submitted hypnotoad.

I am still thinking up a suitable punishment for that.

You know, I came thiiiiis close to putting in (hush Lynn, I know you're about to make a snide comment about my second entry...) to that post because I knew you'd be saying something about it. :P

Honestly yeah there was too much romance/drama. I tried to make mine different.
depressing
is about all I've heard about it so far. ;p So I guess I didn't succeed although I was aiming for that.

I definitely could have gone with a few more mindless action videos. ;p

I'll make one next year...maybe.

/me wonders if next year will be filled with action entries made by editors hoping to cash in on the lack of them from this year...

I set out to make what I planned on making for my main entry, and from what I've heard about Indemnification it got across, so that's fine by me. As for the other vid, well, it's still a work in progress... I do know that if pro keeps the 2 vid rule next year I'll try my best to have 2 full entries ready, even if it means sitting on a vid for a while rather then releasing it.

Perhaps the 2 vid rule would work better if at least one of the vids is required to be a non-drama entry. Granted, since there aren't preset categories that might pose a bit of a problem but still something to consider

Then maybe just pick two genres?

But then someone will think drama, sentimental, and romance are all individual categories.
