Urgent...? Importing .avi files into Vegas 7.0...divx codec

Post by ::+::VOLKSVAGON::+:: » Tue Sep 16, 2008 6:18 pm

Hey :)

I recently downloaded some RAWs of three of the Hellsing OVAs in .avi format. I know how to get normal .avi files to import by changing to codec from XviD to divx, but when I do that with these files, it turns out in absolutely horrid quality: It's all pixellated and has quite a few color glitches...help?

I'd appreciate a quick response, seeing as I was planning on using my RAWs in MEPs...

Thank you in advance,
-Alice [Volks]

use a lossless codec and take clips instead? :/
better quality if you buy and rip the DVDs yourself though :/

*insert message about being highly encouraged to buy the dvds and not use downloaded footage*

no matter what you do, you will never be able to make the quality respectable once you start with footage like that. Avisynth can help, but you can't get gold from putting in trash

Well there's your problem. XviD and DivX are both horrible to edit with. You should never ever edit with those codecs. End of story.

Thank you all for your replies.

Well, I need Hellsing and I need it...fast.
I'm broke, my mom won't let me buy Anime, she tells me to download it.

In this case then, how should I go about getting RAWs/DVD rips that don't take three weeks to torrent and they actually work? If you don't know, it's okay I guess...I'll just drop from the MEPs.

Going on the assumption that for some reason your mom absolutely won't let you buy it, here's the best you can do.

Create an avs file from the Xvid clips using AVIsynth (included in the AMVapp),

-Read up on it a tad and use AVIsynth filters to clean your footage, depending on the start quality of your raw, you should get between great and ~meh~ results

-From the avs, Convert the clips you need to Lagarith lossless codec as JD said (it's included with the AMVapp, [The file sizes will be huge, only convert the clips you'll need])

-Edit using these clips

-export and compress and hope for the best.

if you are too young to get a job.... then make a lemonade stand, mow lawns, babysit, don't tell mom about your "under the table" jobs?
save any allowance, Christmas/birthday gift money and spend it on anime DVDs..

there is no rush to make an amv... seriously.... take your time and do things right and the results will be all that much better... do a rush job and you get rush job results, something that looks sloppy and unrefined...

if you are really wanting to have better quality than what you have been getting then you should do things "the right way"...

While I agree with what you said, he's partaking in a MEP, so time isn't a luxury.
