I'm serious. The more serious something is the funnier it is when you turn it into a parody. And Death Note was like 99% serious business. Plus TheGreatWangs vid where he kills chiyo was inspiring for many i'm sure.
Also, my joke was funnier imo :P

It's easily recognizable, especially with the newer crowd of anime fans that don't get references from older anime. Most people know the main characters and the basic storyline of Death Note, even without having ever seen it. Much like how I get the joke in parodies that use Evangelion, even though I've never seen that. I understand the character relationships enough to find the humor when they are parodied.

Speaking as someone who has made a Death Note Parody...

*cough*http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... p?v=162104*cough*

As guy07 said, it's fun to parody an anime that takes it's self too serious. I made mine because I thought it would be funny to combine "The Lion King" and Death Note, and share it with people. And I knew that most people would get the joke because most people know the basic concept of Death Note, as was already said.

Death Note is a grim anime where a lot of people are wrapped up in death (no shock there).

It has a central personality with a mission drive mentality.

First time I saw Death Note, the guy was being made to seem like he was going to kill off all anime accept one. It was funny seeing him using the death note, and then watching well known anime personalities drop dead.

If Death Note wasn't the grim anime it is, I doubt it would have anything else to offer though.

And I have watched almost all of Death Note, so I understand the feel of the show.

Its central figure is grim the same way Chio chan is annoyingly cute :)

maybe but the series has very very wide rang fans and from my respective
the best use of death note is trying to combine it with something dramatic
and that because it got the most dramatic seen i have ever seen
its not the best but its good so i wonder why people try to action it

-That Steve Guy
Wait until the Code Geass parodies come in..... :o
On some level, I think Geass is self-mocking...
I thought that would've been obvious to most people, especially, say, mid-way through R2
Lelouch hates himself, C.C wishes she could die, Suzaku hates himself and wishes he could die.
Not to mention the shit that hits the fan once you realize that
Spoiler :
what the Emperor was trying to do this entire time was initiate Third Impact, or that Lelouch's true objective once becoming Emperor was to wear a funny hat,
but what the heck.

The best Deathnote Parody is in an episode of Gintama. The whole episode... Anybody who watched it?
