FLCL Resolution

Post by AaronAMV » Sun Aug 31, 2008 12:45 am

All the AMV's I've watched... FLCL is 640x480, not 720x480. So it might be DGIndex screwing me over, again... Or is it really 720x480?
Oh, and the AR is 4:3.

720x480 is right, because the PAR is 0.9, which is 4:3 when watched on a tv screen. But if they compressed and resized right, 640x480 with PAR 1.0 is 4:3 on a computer screen. Somebody else can go into more detail, but that's the simplistic way I look at it.

720x480 is 4:3 (well, at least on TVs it is)

640x480 is also 4:3

the difference is the Display Aspect Ratio
on computers it's 1.0 (square pixels, 640/480 *1.0 = 4/3)
on TVs it's 0.9 (For NTSC anyway, 720/480 *0.9 = 4/3...almost)

Correcting the DAR is something that eadfag goes over

So when I put the avs into VDubMod, I should do... Lanczosresize(640,480) or what?

IIRC you crop(8,0,-8,0) then lanczosresize(640,480)

So
MPEG2source("F:path\FLCL Vol 1.d2v")
Filter
Filter
Etc.
Crop(8,0-8,-0)
LanczosResize(640,480)

Right?

You help me so much. lol
Thx :)

You might consider filtering this way round:

MPEG2source("F:path\FLCL Vol 1.d2v")
Crop(8,0-8,-0)
LanczosResize(640,480)
Filter
Filter
Etc.

It should be slightly faster because the filters which usually take the most CPU time, are working on a smaller resolution and so require fewer calculations. Before the filters were working with 720x480, but now it's 640x480
