When is a good time to quit?

Post by OmniStrata » Mon Aug 18, 2008 9:04 pm

I've got a series unfinished and an extra amv on the burner...

There are those of you out there [few I'm sure or many, don't know myself yet] that go on long hiatus and then suddenly come back.

Some of you original people who inspired me to edit have all disappeared from the life here [icechai, aokakesu, ermac, I'm lookin' at YOU!]

Call me crazy, masochist, whatever, moving around footage on a timeline forever isn't my idea of a good time but my finished product usually justifies my painstaking efforts 0_0 ^_^

How many of you have quit or considered quitting and why did you? or didn't you...

I'm just curious. I think I have only enough steam to edit out my last two projects: Moment of Life & Never Forget; a slow amv and a girl's bravo dance tribute.

Any final amvs you're working on? Just wanna know I do ^_^

quitting means you're never gonna do it again. why would you set a restriction on your future like that?

I haven't made an AMV in 3 years. I don't think I can realistically make one in the next 5. but maybe someday when today's video editing programs and techniques are a thing of the past i'll make one again.

Well, Koopiskeva released another video.

That tends to correlate pretty well with prostration, flagellation, and submission (usually in that order, though there are of course exceptions, mostly for the sick fucks around here who take the last two for their sexual meanings and do them in transposed order).

Probability and statistics dictate that you quit now. Bow to numbers and questionable application of probability distribution functions.

It's a good time to quit when you start asking that question.

You can quit when you're dead.

Until then, you're just on hiatus.

Before you quit you should do an AMV version of this.

making a final video sort of mentally blocks you out of making anything new. just edit when you feel like. some day you won't feel like it anymore at all.

Whoa. Dejavu. :?

Here's something I do to combat that feeling, though that specific feeling has yet to affect me. Do something other than AMVs or video editing in general. Rotate each project around so that you work on one project one day, a second project another day, a third another day, and so on. Keep this up for how many projects you decide to tackle and when you get back to project 1, it will feel fresh and exciting 'cause you haven't done anything with it for a while.

The final video concept is a joke to me. I have so many ideas floating around in my head I'll never have a final video to work on. And at the rate I edit, I'll never get around to doing a final vid anyway.
Probably too busy to be here right now.
