Songs you listen to ONLY because of the AMV
Even though ive been on the org since 03 and making non-WMM since 05...im still pretty damn new to the forums. So if this subject is brought up 10000 times an hour...feel free to just slap me a bit.
But i personally find myself listening to songs I seen in AMVs. im not talking about those bad ass songs you scribble down as you watch an amv contest or browse the org. Im talkin full on guilty pleasure. To the point you have it on your headphones and if people walk by you tend to turn it down a notch or two xD.
Discuss. Ill be sure to throw in a few....if im not slapped to death xD.

I've picked up quite a lot of good music from amvs. I suppose I'm just a sort of visual person, as there have been times when I've heard a song multiple times and never really cared for it, but then when I saw it in a good amv, I suddenly liked it a lot. It's not just amvs though, I also tend to find songs through normal music videos, or things I hear in movies/tv. Something about that visual connection just makes it so much more meaningful to me.

i honestly was not much of a music person before i ran into amvs. i lived overseas when i was young so i did not have any favorite bands or even a favorite type of music. ironically the first amv i ever saw was a linkin park DBZ amv and i thought it was the greatest thing in the world (granted this was back in the very beginning of highschool like 8-9 years ago so it wasnt quite as horribly overdone as it is today). however, i've found some of my favorite bands through amvs: nightwish, within temptation and a few others. plus i've enjoyed a few songs that i would probably have never been exposed to in my lifetime other than through amvs that i really enjoyed.
so it's not stretch to say that the majority of my musical experience has been through amvs. i am living proof that they benefit the music industry

Yeah the same here. I mean I got amvs through a friend and didn´t know any method to check out new music. There just were no bands to choose from and I´m sure that the major radio stations pissed me off the same way they do today.Jasta85 wrote:i honestly was not much of a music person before i ran into amvs.
I found a lot of my favourite bands through amvs. Even those who are well known at all. I also got into bands wich I tend to dislike.
My first custom music cd for my player were only songs and bands from amv discoveries.

Great stuff to check out music!
You can find me on YT under "Bauzi514". Subscribe to never miss my AMV releases.

Most of the 'good' stuff is not used in AMVs. I mean music you really can dream to and or relax yourself to is mostly not that AMV-able. But nevertheless I found quite a few bands I like over AMVs. But still most of the stuff used here is the mainstream-stuff... well i mean the bands everyone knows when they look into music a bit, not the TV/Radio stuff...
Anyway when i look into my personal tastes most of the music that pops up around here is something i wouldn't listen myself to...
Surly AMVs helped me a lot to find new bands and develop my tastes to what they are now, also let's not forget the community around here, got also stuff recommended from other AMVers a few times...

There have been a few instances where I've started listening to a song in the car as a way of "watching" an AMV in my head. I know there've been several but the only one that comes to mind immediately is "The Becoming" by Nine Inch Nails (from Hsien's Transformation video). I remember one time listening to it in the car with a friend and we pulled up to my apartment and the song still had like 20-30 seconds left, and I let the song play out until the end, and I was like "Yeah hang on let me finish watching this"

Sadly AMVs is where I get like 3/4 of my music and music I actually enjoy. I just can't find english music anywhere else, or at least find decent ones I will like. Apart from a couple of bigger sized stores I find more music stores here are dominated with Idol winner/runner ups and RMB/Rap or the same artists owning the charts so there is a lack of variety for me. So yeah without AMVs I think my total mp3 collection would be severly low putting aside all my VGMusic and J-stuff. So basically, I watch an AMV, if I like the music, I try to obtain the song and maybe give an album or two of the artist a go.
Recently I found myself getting a whole lot of Eurobeat music because of certain AMVs, not because I intend to edit using the genre but because its just fun to listen to and its the same sense of fun when I watch those eurobeat AMVs. The most recent example of me listening to a song only because I saw an AMV to it is Alastor's 'Freedom' vid by Blood Stained Child, would not have known about that cool song if that vid didn't exist XD
Also, I find the MEP threads useful for obtaining cool mixs for my mp3 player =D I do enjoy listening to the RoS3, RED End of Silence, Ayumix 2 etc mixes on a regular basis while travelling. In particular there is something irreplacebly magical about listening to the first half of the RoS3 mix way early in the morning and that is partly attributed with how the actual MEP starts of.
Like Brad, the few AMVs I can watch in my head by listening to the song are the ones which get a "this song clearly existed for this anime" vid. There are occassions where I feel the video and audio combination is just perfect.

ITT I am surprised to see that statement coming from you.Scott Green wrote:Most of the 'good' stuff is not used in AMVs. I fully agree, I would've expressed it in a more offending way I guess but that sums it up pretty well for me too.
