because divx/xvid as a whole is buggy when it comes to editing.

because they just are - there is nothing you can really do on your end to fix it - some editors just cant handle the interframe compression in xvid files - you can work around it by creating a new video from the old one that is more compatible with your editor but you will never get the old one to work - so if the OP is trying to find a way to make them work please realize that they never will.Vivaldi wrote:He knows that, he just wants to know why.JaddziaDax wrote:because divx/xvid as a whole is buggy when it comes to editing.

On the off-chance that it's just the audio causing the problem, try opening the file in virtualdub(/mod) and disabling the audio under Streams>>Stream List, then save just the video under File>>Save As...>>Video Mode:>>Direct Stream Copy>>Save
the resultant file should be the exact same as the original, except without the audio
import that file into your editor, and see what happens;
-if it works without problems, then it really was the audio causing problems [or you are just lucky]
-if it still has problems, then I will have to echo what Purge said... it simply won't work unless you re-encode the entire file to a format that is more editing-friendly.

how about what people have been saying in this thread all along, due to how the divx compression works, it's just buggy in editing programs, it was not made for editing.

I suppose someone could just ask zero1 to come in here and write a page or so in the most complex technical jargon that explains it perfectly, but to understand it you need to have taken a grad-level course on video encoding algorithms.Vivaldi wrote:This isn't a speciffic problem he's trying to figure out. It's just a general question as to the actual, technical, why divX doesn't work. And why it's compatibility changes. Get it? he just wants to know why.
