TEN DAYS TO THE CLOSE OF AWA EXPO! Also: COME HELP JUDGE!
The sirens are wailing everyone! Time to get your material together! There's only TEN DAYS LEFT before Expo closes out! Get your vids in so our panel of experts (ie. anyone I can trap in a screening room for a weekend) can peruse your work and give it the recognition it deserves!
For those new to the contest, a quick rundown:
1) We'll take ANYTHING YOU SEND US. We get live action, American animation, creator-filmed, original animation, even static patterns and slideshows on the visuals, and any auditory material you can concieve of for the audio! We've even accepted silent AMVs before. Any topic as well... hentai, ultra-violence, etc. This really is the catch-all for any side project you may have done in your spare time. (Obviously, hentai or ultra-violent winners can't be screened at the normal awards ceremony, but they'll get shown in the late-night blocks.)
2) We'll take AS MANY VIDEOS AS YOU SEND. (I won't lie, this has bitten us on the ass in the past, but we haven't changed the rule yet!) Well... almost as many as you can send. We set the upper limit at 2 hours of material. We also won't accept submissions that have been previously entered in an AWA contest. Other than that, let your imagination run free! Send in new material, old material, whatever you think people will want to watch.
3) Who judges it? Our staff! I haul as many friends and underlings in to express their opinions on the vids as I can over multiple weekends, and we all pool our thoughts on which vids should get the nod. That is, if they don't escape.
You want to help us judge? Are you local to Atlanta? The judging is completely open to anyone who wants to help. E-mail me at drmcwagner@gmail.com for directions and times. Our first judging is coming up this Saturday! (We have to get a jump on the entries or we'd never make it...)
So y'all start sending in your vids when you can! You've got ten days left to spit & polish your work before we see it, but get the ones you're sure are finished to us for those advance screenings!
....and don't forget! SAST is due the week after Expo!

I'm losing confidence that I will have the time to finish up my Expo project before the deadline.
It was easier being an editor who tends to procrastinate and finish everything in a mad rush at the end when I didn't have other responsibilities/involvements and could spend a week's worth of nights doing nothing but editing.

Expo is one of the three contests we run each year as part of the AWA Video Art Track. Contest rules and descriptions can be found here.

then yes, you're right. The contest is not strictly AMV related. The overwhelming majority is AMVs, but we also provide the opportunity for folks to branch out and experiment a bit without having to shift over to a completely different style of convention. Hope that helps. We'll take ANYTHING YOU SEND US. We get live action, American animation, creator-filmed, original animation, even static patterns and slideshows on the visuals, and any auditory material you can concieve of for the audio!
