Not legally - PBS has been doing it for decades.NerdStrudel wrote:Wouldn't really be donating then, it would be paying for a t-shirt or mug.DriftRoot wrote:T-shirts. Please. Or a mug or something would be nice, too.
More reasons to donate.

I've actually been tossing around the idea of a "donate $32, get a shirt" dealie. Yes, you'd essentially be paying $20 for the shirt and donating $12, but all the money would go straight to donations, and we wouldn't have to open up another account for merch.
There are lots of disadvantages to that idea though. Logistically, the <s>pros probably outweigh the cons</s>. :/
EDIT: I meant to type "cons outweigh the pros."

Hey, I once checked a French site that sells videogames and related stuff... there was a keychain I was interested in, it was worth something like... 5 euros perhaps... and shipping costs were almost 25 euros alone. :\ Talking about shipping an item from French to Italy... wonder how much America to Italy would be?NerdStrudel wrote:Sorry, Not not worth it I mean more expensive then the donation.
But then again it may not be, I don't really know the shipping costs overseas.
Also, shipping from China to Italy is 18 euros or so... I still don't understand why shipping from China is cheaper than French. o.O
Anyways, I'd like to link THIS topic... the idea of having a double LOCAL download for donators is quite cool.

I should have fluffed out my stuff request to say that one would have to donate a minimum amount to get something...like $75+ for a t-shirt or whatever. I realize logistically it's a nightmare, but I can dream, can't I?
Also, if the perk wasn't permanent and was something like a double link, that would take a lot of policing: keeping track of who's donated, who's got double links, which one should be taken down...and then if one were taken down, but the person donated again, would the video have to be re-uploaded? Etc.
And what about those people who don't make AMVs, but donate to this site? A double link is of no benefit to them whatsoever.

The catch there is that what happens when you're not a donator anymore? Do both links stay up? If so, then introducing a perk that is permanent would potentially backfire if it was too much of a perk. In other words, if it was so great that someone donated just to obtain it, the chances of them continuing to donate if they don't need to are probably fairly low.mirkosp wrote: Anyways, I'd like to link THIS topic... the idea of having a double LOCAL download for donators is quite cool.

Adding benefits isn't be for people who have donated. They've already felt it was worth it to donate, more benefits are just extra perks. It's for people who haven't, where more benefits are extra incentives.DriftRoot wrote:And what about those people who don't make AMVs, but donate to this site? You could also make a second local link an option that has to be paid for. Like on a one for one basis. Then there's no worrying about losing it after losing donator status.
