The moment of inspiration
I think this topic has been made before, but meh.
Most AMVs are inspired by their music, some by their animes, some others by a random concept in search of sources. What has inspired some of your videos as fellow creators?
When I was making LAIN DOES NOT DANCE I used a scene from Lain of the housewife Knights members pulling a high-tech expansion card out of it's bubble-wrap for the like "INSTEAD YOU USE A TANDY". It was just for background since I overlaid a TRS-80 logo over it. That video was silly and quick, no big deal. Sometime afterward, I was driving around listening to Weird Al music when I heard the line "Shows up in bubble-wrap" from the song "eBay." Immediately the scene from Lain flashed into my head. I restarted the song and realized the whole song could fit with Lain with proper editing, so I immediately started editing when I got back to my room(with help from the #amv chatroom finding weird eBay listings)....

September 2006 was notorious for me in that.
I came up with the complete concept for my "The Plot Thickens" video in about 20 seconds from the moment Jasper randomly threw that title at me - you can see the whole story of that in the video description.
Then I went climbing in nearby hills the following week, thinking about editing while doing it, and then came back and made... MAMA. I only remember resting on a big rock overlooking a river valley, and "Mama, mama, chto ya budu delat'" flashed by in my head with the latest anime I'd watched, which was FLCL at the time... the rest is history

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Where the fuck is the next one? You need to try to kill yourself again to get it fucking done >_<The Origonal Head Hunter wrote:I slit my wrists. I saw the blood. I said to myself as I blacked out, "Hey, I'm commiting suicide, and there's blood in Hellsing!" When I regained consciousness in the hospital, I started looking for a song. And when I was released three weeks later, Suicidal Nightmares was born.

Almost all of my videos are I get a general idea then I go looking for a song that would work with my idea. Then I look for an anime that will work with the idea and song. Case in point, any of my 'dedicated to' videos are pretty obviously based on a central idea with a 'eh, that song/scene will fit I guess' editing philosophy. I actually like how this turns out, it almost guarantees there is a central idea to the video (although in my case it's usually a rather shallow one) rather than 'look at this cool scene' or 'I like this song'. On the downside there's usually no or very little meshing between my video and it's sources. Hell, one of my early videos uses seven anime that I still haven't seen even now, years later. I barely know what the themes of those anime are much less how they relate to my video. They had scenes I needed and I just don't give a shit beyond that.
Occasionally I am inspired by a song and search around for an anime to fit. Usually I end up not liking these since they're little more than 'cool song huh?' The exception being Conet which I like more for other peoples segments than my own.
Only once have I been inspired by the anime and these days I think that video is the worst of any I've done.
