This is an important enough footnote that I thought it deserved its own thread:

There is nothing in The Qur'an that says you get to treat women unequally. The horrible treatment of women you see in Arab countries are from ARABS interpreting the Qur'an in its most fanatical way. The execution, the burkas, the disrespect, the 3rd class citizenship, all of that comes from arab countries. There is nothing in the Qur'an about it, and its not a part of Islam.

Just because the KKK thinks God hates niggers, doesn't make it a part of Christianity.

Just because a women can get gang raped by 7 men and then executed for "adultry" in Saudi Arabia, doesn't make it a part of Islam.

Just an FYI. Its a very complicated cultural thing over there, but in short: Muslims aren't fucked, arabs are.

Back in the days of the caliphate, women owned property, businesses, could come and go as they pleased, and could divorce their husbands by simply throwing his stuff out into the street (which is still applicable in some Muslim countries today). It was as close to equality as the Dark/Middle Ages got.

Yeah, I already knew that beo, but I'm sure there are lots of people who don't ... and I really don't like it either. I work in a aprt building and like 30% of the people living there are from somewhere in the middle east, all first generation. Some of them are really nice to their wives, but I've also see guys who leave their wives and/or kids in the car for a hour while they go and hang out with their buddies. It's not really abuse I guess, but it is a good example about how much respect they have for their spouses. But like I said, they aren't all like that.
