The only way to deal with haters is to get drunk and start swinging. First step is optional.

I'd actually think the 2nd step is optional. 1st step is a must for anything.

I'm surprised on the level of defensiveness I've seen in this thread from a couple of people... I was not meaning to smear anybody, which is why I didn't mention anyone or anyplace by specific name. To tell the truth, it doesn't matter who the original person was or where they came from. I read that and I was just offended, and it opened my eyes to see where some people's motivations lie in certain things. But I guess I'm chalking this up to some kind of misunderstanding, reading that off-the-cuff remark that was made.

I guess certain people are right in that I should just shake it off. Hating others for their like or dislike of certain hobbies is childish and stupid.

Recently on a public blog, two prominent anime-convention personalities, one of whom associated with a very famous AMV-centric convention
If you actually want a public discourse on this then my suggestion would be to link the actual posts so those who aren't in the know can draw their own conclusions.

If your intention is to not open the flame gates then you are failing because all it looks like by being vague is that you are trying to feed/reinforce your own personal opinion on this.

In general comments (not specific to the person cited) I chalk stuff like that up to "eh thats just their opinion, I still enjoy the hobby" and don't dwell on it. I've seen lots of AMV haters (known and unknown)...

The person you are specifically citing probably grew "hatred" from the many years of people asking him about amvs, and what was once a passive non-interest, or "thats cute" turned into something that annoyed him..

Kinda like my nephew asking me 20-30 times a day for two weeks straight for permission to play my DS, at first it didn't bother me, but after the first couple days of saying "no" over and over I started to get rather pissed after every time he asked.

I think the proper way is to offer a money match n MVC2

Where you have to be a random team.

And then you kick ass.

Yea, I can see that. I've said it before, but I probably never would have named it AMV Hell at all if I had known how things were going to turn out. The first AMV hell was just a set of 2 five minute long amvs. That was supposed to be it. It seemed like a cool to named it AMV Hell as a way of paying homage to the Anime Hell thing. So the thing snowballs and then becomes a huge, huge project... we never really saw that coming from back in the beginning though.
