Dealing with haters
Recently on a public blog, two prominent anime-convention personalities, one of whom associated with a very famous AMV-centric convention, were talking about how they got e-mails wondering where all the AMVs were in their annual Friday night clip show:
You know, I wish those AMV people had taken two minutes and come up with their own goddamn name for [a famous multi-editor AMV project known for its quickfire Robot-Chicken-like funny clips], rather than steal ours. I get people bugging me about anime music videos constantly, and I can't stand the things. It burns me right to the core. I ought to get out the 409 on that one.
I don't understand the longevity of these things. I thought they were novel back in the day, but the popularity of these things make no sense to me.
I guess I'm just not as much of a geek as I used to be. Who knows...
It shocked me that a former chairman of an anime convention would say things that disparage the existence of a very successful program track for their convention. I never realized there was so much resentment within the convention community behind the scenes.
My question: how do you deal with people like that? I mean, isn't hating/making fun of people because of their hobbies a little... childish and unprofessional?

there are people who hate everything from video games to hamburgers, it's a matter of taste. I personally think modern art is rather odd (once went o a modern art museum and many of the exhibits looked like something a 2 year old would make when given a jar of clay and some paint) however if people like it then more power to them, it doesnt concern me so i dont let it bother me. however some people seem to feel insulted when other people like things that they dont, probably just part of their personality.
in this case, perhapse this person just didnt really care about amvs to begin with and when people ask him about them he gets annoyed. maybe he's just having a bad day and is venting on that blog, who knows. there's nothing you can do about haters so i just ignore them for the most part.

This person personally authorized creation of the AMV track at the convention mentioned above. He may not like AMVs, and he doesn't, but he has done more for this community than many others. Without him, we would not have certain contests that the whole org gets excited about every year.Jasta85 wrote:in this case, perhapse this person just didnt really care about amvs to begin with and when people ask him about them he gets annoyed. maybe he's just having a bad day and is venting on that blog, who knows. there's nothing you can do about haters so i just ignore them for the most part.
Brakus's reaction is either a sign of misunderstanding, or willful attempts to smear a significant anime community contributer's good name.
And I will not have it.

If I was one of the makers of Anime Hell I'd probably be a bit nonplussed after several years of people wondering why it wasn't AMV Hell they were watching.
Life's short.
