One beta for one opinion

Post by Heartstrings » Sun Jul 13, 2008 8:59 pm

I'm working on a manga/anime AMV and I really need someone's advice. but please don't be too strict with me. lol ^_^

I just need one persons opinion right now, and please no MPEG 4 for opinions. Please AVI, MPEG 1 and 2, and WMV only. I am very sorry but my computer can't handle MPEG 4 even with VLC, it freezes and dies. =[

So if anyone is interested please just drop your video by and download mine by following the link provided. The file extension for this beta is WMV, but the quality is nice. =3

Random Beta bits... probably a lot incoherent - first impressions... this is just my opinion, you can take the advice or leave it, no worries either way, I won't be offended if you don't like my advice...

What program are you using? (looks like Vegas to me, but I could be wrong)... sometimes it helps if I know what programs you are using that way I know how to give advice without using a lot of general terms...

I'd crop the video in so that the video parts match up with the image parts... (that way the edges match) if the resolutions are supposed to match you might want to check your project settings O.o

general - I couldn't really tell if you were trying to build a story or not, there seemed to be a lot of images going in and out and it was hard to keep up with so I ended up pausing and replaying a lot... I think when it comes to using images simpler is better, and "animating" parts tends to end up looking really cool... but you shouldn't need so much flying around to make it look "interesting"

I don't like the text on the video at the beginning (looks like some kanji and some numbers, a date perhaps?)... I like the video behind the text, perhaps you should find a similar image or shot of this without the text...

also photoshop out the text in the manga images as well... if you need to use the text then animate them into the video. for the parts where the text is being ignored though, I'd just get rid of them completely because they kinda distract from the video (speaking of english text, not necessarily the "sound effects" text)

I'd also start off with B&W (or at least desaturated a lot) then when then when the music becomes stronger at :35 make the color come in suddenly... OR let it build over time going from a more black and white feel and build up to the color stuff... Color is a powerful tool, use it wisely.

I like the drumbeats at :10

the image at :14 is blurry - could use some sharpening (probably better to do it in photoshop rather than whatever editing program you are using) or make it it's own image file instead of zooming in with your editing program so much.

at :16 it took me a minute to register what was floating to the right. there seems to be a whole lot going on.. on the screen at that point with the transition and the bar floating left (at first it just looked like a pretty design)...

I'd make it stop in the middle to create a split screen... your next image (the one you currently have coming in with the "barn door".. Take that and make it appear on the left side of the bar (after it stops of course) and keep your original image on the right... does this make sense? (I can make a drawing of what I mean if you want) that way you can see both images, one on the left side of your floating bar and one on the right O.o

at :18 the image of the eyes, I'd bring up from the bottom (and pan it a lot slower or don't start the starting point so far away from the ending point...), since the back drop is panning the opposite direction. and once again make the focus of the lyrics (the image of the eyes) stop so that people know what to focus on there..

The image with "kill him" on the screen, 1. I'd take out the "kill him" and animate it onto the screen in a better font (if i were going to use the text at all)... also, the top part of that image seems to be there for no reason, I'd not pan it at all and just fade it in... also cut off the top part if it's not being used.

the split screen at :25 I'd use photoshop (or THE GIMP or whatever other image program you are using) to split it in two halves (so that there are two different video files and have one panning up while the other is panning down... and make them stop in the middle or once they reach their original positions

The image at :27: the "I'm Goku" image... I'd completely remove the word bubbles and I donno the image doesn't really fit... seems kinda random or like filler.

the "run and run and run" part... I'd take off the text... but i like the image/audio sync here...

at :31 the image in the background... flip it horizontally, cause as it is you can't really see the image that well, and move the masked more to the right with panning...

at :50 I think it would be cool to have something in the background of this scene. and get rid of the text bubble once again. (perhaps flower petals falling?)

at :53 I've no clue what you crossfaded to... what is that?

at :55 the splitscreens you did here is really neat, cept only one of them is moving, and the rest are not I'd have all of them moving, but a whole lot slower than the one that is currently moving... also alternating the directions they are moving, one up, one down, one up, one down like so... but don't pan them too fast or they will make people dizzy?

at 1:05 the sharp contrast from black and white to the color again is rather drastic O.o pick a color scheme, if it were me I'd de-saturate all the anime parts (maybe not down to B&W but at least so that the bright colors are toned down a lot) - to keep in mood with the song and to fit more with the manga images which are completely devoid of color.

1:08 something interesting going on in the background, or perhaps another image on the right side of the screen (panning the opposite direction) would be interesting there...

at 1:13 i have the extremely fast moving right-ways bar again O.o

and thats all I got... if it doesn't make sense ask me...

and yea, no worries, looks like an interesting concept (and I don't even really like Saiyuki) but I'm curious to know what the finished project is going to look like cause I kinda like the idea of melding manga with anime like that :3

anyways uh yea good luck?
