Did you do it by PM? Because I think his telepathy receptors might've shorted out a bit due to old age...

I'd personally recommend this sort of thing to be approved; it's certainly in the same boat as fanart/doujins...

On the other hand, fanart not made by the editor has previously caused a few problems (like deviantart users whose fanart was used in banners here demanding said banners be taken down) - so that could throw in a complication...
If he asks Monty Oum for permission, then it'd probably be fine, I'd wager.

I personally think Dead Fantasy shouldn't be used as AMV footage . . .

I mean it's perfect as it is and it's like stealing someone elses AMVs for my own if I'd make an AMV with, of course this is just my opinion ;)

Even if Monty Oum would give premission, this is still tricky...
I mean he is an american, right? Thus it was not animeted in japan, but it uses animation originated from there (FF and DoA)
Although original animation is allowed on here isn't it just limited to the creator himself or something...
Tricky, Tricky...

I guess the desicion is up to Vlad anyway...

i would love to ask monty oum for permission to use his vid to make fanmade videos but i dont really know how to contact him, cant find his official site. if he said he would rather not have other people use his vids for fanmade material i would respect that (ive already made one but i stop trying to show it to other people online). dont suppose anyone knows of a way to contact him?

finally found a way to message Monty oum, asked him if he minded people using his material for their own projects and gave him a link to my amv as an example, hopefully it wont make a bad impression on him, anyway, if he does give the negative on other people using his work than that should settle this issue

Not really... I'm sure some anime companies don't really like people using their stuff for whatever reason, but here were are...making a hobby out of it :O.

woot, got a reply from the mighty oum, he said he was A-ok with us using his material, and there have actually been a few fan made ones already, i didnt think i was the first to try. he also said he might check out this thread and throw in his 2 cents on this matter, so Vlad, whenever you resurrect yourself and check this thread out i really hope you allow this to go through

Actually, I didn't really message him at all. Was saying it as a joke.

I would like to know how this would be different from animation from an American animation house simply styled to look like anime though. They're both not anime by the site's definition, but styled to look like they are Some sort of creator annual income clause coming up? Perhaps a team-size audit?

As far as permission goes, I personally would be (and am) honored if anyone uses anything I've made as source footage.

I haven't been back here in ages, but I'm getting the impression that rules for submitting amv's fall somewhere in the line of using only footage that originates from and anime or video game.

It's my belief (and hope) that in the future there will more people like me making movies. If not I will do my best to make sure there will be. So I think the future of video itself lies in fans garnering the same amount of credibility of of official works anime/game footage. Whether or not the org wants to be a part of that is up to you.

There's a valid point here, I do my work by planning it to the music similar to the way AMV's are made. The difference being I make the footage to the soundtrack. On the other hand as far as the content that originates from the games. None of the animation is ported from anywhere but my own two hands. The models on the other hand in part are from the games.

Hope this helps on the decision.
