Question about IDing anime in AMVs

Post by DriftRoot » Sun Jul 06, 2008 12:35 pm

I'd like to know what's the best way to approach the following situation, when getting ready to upload an AMV to the database (which I'm not):

Let's say there's an AMV which appears to exclusively use only one footage source. In reality, however, it also uses footage from other series that has been so altered in appearance as to be unrecognizable.

When it comes time to list the anime appearing in the AMV, is it proper to list everything, even if no one would ever be able to tell more than one source was used, or list only the prominent source? The argument I'd make for the latter is that if someone did a search on the AMV with one of the unrecognizable sources as a parameter, they'd then be very confused and possibly resentful if they didn't see that footage in the video. One could still list that other footage in the comments area, of course.

as a matter of giving proper credit, I'd list all sources.

Nostromo is one creator who tends to do this a lot in his videos, and he always credits his sources. Be like Nostromo. :O

To add some sort of answer to the points raised, i'd say explain the situation in the description somewhere as well. If someone didn't read it, it's their own damn fault.

Oh, I'd explain it, certainly. Right up front, in italics if necessary. ^_^

I guess I was thinking along the lines that the "sources" we list become valuable primarily as search parameters and, if that's the case, people should be able to expect to see the anime they're looking for in a video which lists that footage as a source. If it's there, but almost completely unidentifiable because of what the editor has done to it, then that source doesn't really deserve to be a search parameter if it bears almost no resemblance to the original footage.

Of course, that would probably start debates about what's "almost" completely unidentifiable. Not a good idea. hehe

If the Footage used was completely unidentifiable, but listed in the Video profile, I'd be surprised I didn't find it in the Video and think you'd did an awesome Job O_o
