some ppl don't care..

me, i don't care. i just think those who do it are seriously that much of a looser that they need to review thier own vids just to put more comments or raise the opinion count. :? i've seen some of them even reply to their own reviews.

but really... i'm surprised at all that you LOOK at all the reviews for a certain vid and see who scored it and it and how. :? i can understand the whole "i'll get an idea for my opinion and maybe make my review better thing..." but really, you should come up with what you feel/think of the vid without outside resources to influence you real judgement on teh vid.

also, why does it matter so much that they left a review for themselves? really though, what have they done to piss you off so much and irritate you becuase they left a review for their own vid. :? they do what they do. you should do what you do. i dont' really understand how this would hurt you in any way or why you should be upset about a total stranger playing narcisis and reviewing their own vid. it affects/effects you in now way shape or form. :? so..chill already. leave the vid a review if you must..but complaining about how a creator makes a review for himself really isn't getting you or anyone else anywhere.

:shrugs: well, its your deal...

Nods. Yeah, I agree that I probably sound like I'm going on about a pretty minor issue, however here is the main reason I feel a bit justified in being generally irritated (though it's more a shake my head in frusteration sort of thing than a bang my fists against the table and wail at God sort of thing):

Yesterday a fellow by the name of Ryo.it managaged get his videos into the TOP of the 10% list by having himself and his buddies (at least I figure they are his buddies as they seemingly belong to the same studio) give his videos 10s straight across the board. When I saw his vids appear in the top 10% list I was intrigued enough as the fellow is Italian, and I thought, hmm, an Italian editor might have a different take on things, and might make a pretty neat video. I hadn't checked to see who had reviewed these videos before starting to download, and my connection was being kinda fudgy, so my computer was tied up with the downloading for some time, and when I finally watch them what are they?

HIS FREAKIN' VACATION VIDEOS set to music,

I kid you not, his vacation videos. So I'm essentially, like WTF, who the heck reviewed these things? I go back click the little "learn more" link at the bottom of each of the video page and find out that he and his buddies had written the initial 3 reviews that got him into the list which precipitated me tieing up my computer downloading his videos while I could have been downloading porn in bulk or something else similarly worthwhile.

Prior to this I didn't even know that creators could post reviews for their own works...

Needless to say, I, and (I just learned) one other gentlemen who seemingly felt the same way I did about Ryo.It's video's, were nice and gave him our honest opinions about his videos, which not surprisingly knocked them off the 10% list. I know it is essentially "download at your own risk" here at times, and there have been times where I have genuinely not liked vids that numerous other people have reviewed and liked, and I've never been bothered by the random factor that can be associated with personal tastes. However, this incident just really irked me as it was such a blatent attempt to manipulate the system and waste my time.

well then why didn' tyou complain about THAT earlier instead of attackign the masses that do that...

:? cuz i know a couple ppl who do leave themselves opinions on thier own vids...and considerable rate them lower then teh general public that score it....::cough::omni::cough::

anyway...the point is...there's no real way you can hinder this. everytime one person screws up....ten ppl want to do someting about it and one by one priviledges will be taken away until there's nothing to limit anymore. :? unfortunately...that's the way it goes...

Honesty at work

Sorry if I left my motives so obscured, but even though my ire was raised by a single creator, I was indeed attacking the masses at large... :D

I did put this little disclaimer in my first post since most people here are pretty honest folk who don't review their own works because it seems, for lack of a better definining word "unfair." I just don't think that the percieved strengths of allowing self-review as it stands makes up for its weaknesses.

Wait a min. I REPLY TO MY OWN REVIEWS! In all seriousness though, it's just one review. The true losers are the creators that make up multi accounts (we know some of you are more than you appear) and THEN up their scores...

^_^

Some of you are busting an artery over something so trivial as an idiot who gives themselves straight 10s... He's all alone. Now if the video has 3 reviews only and lands in top 10%, why the frell are you complaining! Opinionate the damn thing and drag the idiot noob back down! ^_^

I do that sometimes... heh heh

I've reviewed several of my own videos and tried to be as critical as possible. Here are some examples...

Good Okay, good choice in music. The song really has a western feel to it and could have really encompassed the feel of Trigun and Vash well under normal circumstances. Video and audio quality were decent. Some editing was okay at times. The ending was somewhat humorous.

Bad Bad! Bad! Bad scene selection! This video could have been pretty good with scenes from more than just the first episode. Some parts of the video just had running footage that had nothing to do with the music other than a lull in the beats. Too many unentertaining moments gave this vid a very boring feel to it at times. Also, this song is commonly used in AMV's so originality suffers for it.

General Overall, lack of entertaining footage killed what could have been a pretty good video. This song, matched with Trigun, had loads of promise but none of it was delivered, with the possible expection of the funny ending. In it's current form it's just way too lackluster and dull to recommend (I hate being hard on myself but sometimes tough love is needed to get my ass in gear).

Good Okay, as hard as it is to try and come up with some good points about this one, I'll give it a try. I think I did a decent job with the editing. Action scenes, for the most part, matched up well with the music and the opening sequence was well synched with the beginning of the song. Sound quality was audible and not overtly bad. Eventhough it was "another DBZ video" , the footage was not as common as most DBZ vids use and gave it some sense of originality. The concept had a decent premise.

Bad The main problem with this video...QUALITY SUCKS!!! Video was pixelated to ridiculous measures and even had noticeable quality changes throughout the video. Also, Rob Zombie songs have become extremely overused and just further reinforce this video as the prototype DBZ AMV that so many people have grown to despise.

General Overall, very average video (I know I'm being hard on myself but it's true!). The concept for something good was there but the source footage stripped away any hope of making this video stand out from the many it so blatantly resembles. Remember this...Windows Movie Maker will be your demise!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've never given myself all 10's on any of my vids but now that I think about it....I probably should since my average sucks. :?

Just to say none of my videos have been rated yet(not that I'm asking) but I still have a score.... I didn't review anything, and I don't think anyone else has so... just asking is this normal?

Yeah, I've done it a few times as well, though I do try to be as honest and helpful as possible with my reviews, even toward those individuals I am "bothered" by. However, a lot of times one can't review a video in the top 10% that has 3/4 reviews simply because it isn't available for download. Yet, this goes back to an earlier thread about the problems with the Top 10% list. In someways it would be nice if there was a seperate Top 10% list, or at least a filter for videos that are actually available for download.
