Adobe Premier Pro versions: CS3 worth the price?

Post by TetsuyaDL » Wed Jun 11, 2008 4:36 pm

I've been using Adobe Premier Pro 7 (i.e. APP 1) to make AMVs for the past few years. Recently, I bought a new computer with a fancy 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS video card for the purpose of making AMVs more conveniently. I stuck to APP 1 until now because my old computer couldn't handle APP 2 when I tried the trial version.

So my question is: Is buying APP CS3 or a version newer than APP 1 worth the cost? I can get APP CS3 for $340 at my university's student store. I don't care too much for fancy effects; what interests me most is how quickly the program runs, renders, and previews clips on the working bar. (My old computer was slow at doing all of these.) Do the newer versions of Premiere help these processes go faster? Also, do they require the same amount of hard drive space? (On my old computer, ~half of my 60 GB hard drive was devoted to Premiere Pro working files.)

New comp's specs if you're interested:

HP Pavilion dv9700t
2.4 GHz Processor
3 GB Memory
512 MB Video card
250 GB Hard Drive

I don't think those things have improved much, so its probably not worth upgrading.

I found that Adobe Premiere Elements 4 is $100 from adobe.com, and $55 from amazon.com. I think I'll go with that, as I checked the list of differences and elements seems to be enough for me.
