I would actually argue against this point. The kind of people who would join the military often are trying to make a better life for themselves, hopefully get an education, earn a living to raise a family, etc. These are the people who don't want to be in the crime/gang lifestyle.godix wrote:War is good for thinning out poor disadvantaged young males from a population. What is war good for.

And conversely, I can't say about America or elsewhere, but in Russia the organized crime groups feed off war veterans - in fact some of the most violent gangs are composed exclusively of guys that fought in the Chechen and Afghan wars.Zarxrax wrote:I would actually argue against this point. The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

No, seriously, War is ignorant in my eyes. Wars mean a lot of people dying, a lot of money getting used, ecnomic turmoil (in most cases anyway), and a lot of contraversy in the media/government.
Plus, I find the legality of declaring war majorly ignorant in my eyes. Vietnam was a perfect example of this. If our country (America) goes to war, there's really not much we can do about it. Then again, we also have the whole "pleasing everybody at every instance" at issue there. Blah. It's all objective in the long run
Then again, I'm speaking from an American standpoint, so I really can't say about wars in other countries that I haven't studied.
But personally, it just irritates me.

Many people who join the military are from the lower class. The lower class produces most of the criminals, at least the violent ones. It's not unreasonable to suspect the group of violent criminals and the group interested in the military, which is all about blowing shit up and killing people, cross over.Zarxrax wrote:I would actually argue against this point. My point is that, while the military may well be full of criminals, a typical thug would rather keep selling crack to whores on the street, rather than join up with something where they have to follow a lot of rules, get yelled at, and do whatever they are told.godix wrote:Many people who join the military are from the lower class. You'd be surprised what a little discipline can do for a crack-dealing operation...Zarxrax wrote:My point is that, while the military may well be full of criminals, a typical thug would rather keep selling crack to whores on the street, rather than join up with something where they have to follow a lot of rules, get yelled at, and do whatever they are told.

The first Castille>Spain game I just got tired of, a spiraling series of wars that, if I went far enough, ended with France occupying the entire peninsula, and demanding no less than most of northern Spain, as well as all my nice, university educated provinces in Italy. No go man, I shan't live under the heel of France, always waiting for that one misstep that will lead them to banish me across the ocean, to a scar- brave, new world. So I cast about Europe, seeing who was worthy of being lead to new glory. I tried a range of German nations, Teutonic order is powerless to oppose the might of the HRE. So I tried BEING the HRE. Well, you don't get to be the Holy Roman Emperor long if you annex the ones your appointed to protect, so I thought I'd give the Hapsburg's a try, surely a nation as fun as Austria couldn't let me down. Well after I seceded most of my provinces to Bohemia, the initial emperor, I decided to give up on being German. And with Italy either in the empire or being directly below it, was out too.
However, since the rest of the world are really meant to be speed bumps for Europe, I decided on the good ol'... getting invaded right at the start, Ottomans. The situation right now feels rather like a world war, where you have a ugly coalition that could potentially defeat you in the west, and an annoying sonuvabitch in the east. I don't fear THEM, but that nasty western coalition can't be stopped unless I commit everything, which means giving peace to the east. I've been at war for 15 years now, with about a week of peace before the first grand coalition ended and the second started. But that's a story for when this piece of shit computer works.
