How do I import my Mp4 Files into Sony Vegas 8?

I have a bunch of Mp4 files that I need to get put into my SV8 and for some reason, all it imports is the audio for it. I would like to know if it is at all possible, and how to go about doing it? Do I need certain plugins or can it not import them at all. Any help would be very graciously appreciated. Thanks.

just like as with divx/xvid, you don't want to be editing with .mp4 files (unless you happen to know they were encoded losslessly)

convert to avi as per usual
