Avisynth Virtual File System
http://www.turtlewar.org/avfs/
This new application allows one to use avisynth scripts in any application that supports avi files. It can be seen as a replacement for vfapi or makeavis. I would encourage people to try it out and let me know what you think, so I can make a decision on including it in amvapp in the future.

Did a few tests:
First test:
HD source at 1920x1080. After mounting the script, the files size of the avi in the virtual FS was ~400gb. It took about 5 to 10 minutes to load the resulting avi file into vdub. After it was loaded, I could seek normally, no issues.
Second test:
DVD source at 720x480. Loaded the resulting file into windows movie maker. Was going to take 20minutes to create clips. Canceled after a minute. Looks like its working pretty good.
Third test:
DVD source, small clip at 720x480. Loaded resulting file into window media encoder. worked perfectly fine.
I'm most pleased with the third test. I've had a hard time finding an avi wrapper that will work well with WME and this worked great.

yeah, that made me do a double-take ;PZarxrax wrote:Just so you know the virtual files shouldn't REALLY take up any space, even though they report using it.
It seemed to work in Magix MEP 10 on some amvs [I don't have ripped dvds right now], although the clip turned blank after about 2GB of footage; I think this is just a limitation of my version of Magix.
I even tried it with MPC, VLC, and KM; to my surprise, it worked there too
One thing I noticed is in the readme, it says to use the .avi and .wav files, but if the source has audio, it gets imported along with the video. Maybe there's an option to keep them separate? It just takes longer to import when there's attached audio; and when there's no audio, I have to make a separate wav file... something that needs to be done for makeavis too.
minor drawback is that you can't drag and drop multiple sources since they each have their own directory [yeah... I'm a nit-picky bastid

Anyways, pretty cool. I really dig the right-click Mount thing. Even works when multiple avs are selected

You can just modify your avisynth script to kill the audio whenever you dont want it.Phantasmagoriat wrote:One thing I noticed is in the readme, it says to use the .avi and .wav files, but if the source has audio, it gets imported along with the video. Oh yes, I know. The thing is, if I did want audio, Magix has this annoying import feature where it makes a wav copy of the audio stream for editing... which makes sense to use a lossless copy... but it takes a while, and extra space. If the fake avi and fake wav were separate, I wouldn't have to deal with an extra wav file. Its the same way with makeavis, so I've learned to deal with it, but yeah, I'm a nit-picky bastid
