When I heard those sections of the song I thought of the train immediately. I mainly used straight cuts and two specialty video transitions. I'm trying to do a contemporary action video without turning to the "white frame flash on the beat" technique.MisterFurious wrote:
But you still kept the editing "old school." Mostly edits and hardly any effects at all. I particularly liked the way you assigned the horn section to the train. Made perfect sense.

Anyways congrats to all of the finalists :3
grats on finalist, your effort is deserving if it helps O_O
Duly noted as I don't float around the a-m-v.org forums very much at all.WC Annihilus wrote:Grats to the finalists!
This has been gone over plenty of times, no need to bring it up here
so if its been gone over already then I won't bring it up.
I actually hope that being in the Nokia Theatre won't make the music echo too much. :\Castor Troy wrote:There may be a chance some videos that didn't get in, along with some past entrants may be shown during the seating/pre-show.The Wired Knight wrote:Well didn't make it in; dissapointed but oh well. There's always AWA.
Congrats to those who made it in though, I look forward to seeing your entries.
BTW Brad: you coming to the AMV dinner this year? Rider is running it and will be doing it in Little Tokyo.
How awesome would it be to see the internet is for porn at the Nokia Theatre?
Same boat as you.MisterFurious wrote: I also happen to find myself in the unenviable position of not standing a chance, as Fanime's audience winner for action is running against my Drama entry at AX. But now, it's up against "Fix You"...
Again, you never can predict how things will go. It certainly makes it all fun...
i am competing against the same vid (Falling Dreams)
at Fanime it was my Code Geass vid against Falling Dreams in the action category
and now at AX
its the Deadline 24 vid against Falling Dreams, in the drama category.
i am also up against your "Fix You" video...ohh boyyy..
to think i stood a chance

I agree. I like that you did it with no major effects. You made a video which totally makes me want to see the anime.MisterFurious wrote:But you still kept the editing "old school." To me, that is a big part of what makes a good amv versus a compilation. If it makes me want to see or re-watch the anime used then it is more effective in my mind.
I am of two minds. I appreciate both styles. Old school (which is where I and obviously Brad and many others came from) and New school with effective use of effects. I can appreciate both. I like both. If done well. To date I think the best use of fade to black is still "Rhythm of The Heat." Hands down. Its on my top ten list.
"Condemned Memoir" was another example of choosing perfect music to reflect the depth of the character being highlighted. The whole Jekyll and Hyde dichotomy was frakking awesome. The effects used served to highlight the story being told.
Vids like "Attack of The Otaku" are fun bouncy vids. Well executed (even with the minor misinterpretation of one of the lyrics) and fun.
Vids like Nostromo's "Magic Pad" are visual eye candy compilation vids. Great music, great visuals, but not necessarily telling a story. Rainbow Revolution (one of this year's finalists) is an example. Very well done. Lots of fun.
Which do I like better? I can honestly say neither. I like them both equally. It really depends on my mood.
I don't know why I got off on the little tear there. Nic, I your vid really makes me want to see Baccano, I fully agree with what Brad said about using the horns with the Train. It totally fit. Ben did a thing in "Deadline 24" with the bell that just blew me away when I saw it and equally important...it was consistent.
ok shutting up now.
I suppose I can provide detailed opinions later.
